What do you guys think about the "old green curado"?

I had never fished with the green monster so it was just a myth to me. I'd heard all of the talk so I bought one on ebay (paid too much for sure cry). Just fished with it for the first time yesterday and. . .I'm not impressed. It is bulky and doesn't feel near as good as my revo's or citica.

Has technology made the "old green curado" outdated, or is it still your favorite reel?

the thing about the green monster, and you could never tell just by looking at the parts, but the dang thing is bullet proof. I've had one since 1997 that has probably been my most used reel, and it still looks good and still performs like it did the day I bought it.

but yes, it is really nothing special performance wise compared to newer reels, but will the newer stuff last like the curado does?

The new Curados are better inside. They are smoother, cast farther and also have a tougher finish (they don't get boat rash as easily). I believe they are definitely a better reel. The only thing negative about the new ones is they are so cold in your hand on a really cold day. I started fishing the green Curados years ago, along with the Chronarchs and Calcutta 250. All are great reels. However, in my opinion the new model Curados and Chronarchs are a little better than the older models. I can't wait to get my hands on one of the new Curados coming out soon. People are nostalgic about the Green Curados for $99 at Academy and with good reason. Most people had never used a reel this good. Shimano jumped up the price to $199 on the new Curados and Abu-Garcia came out with the $99 Revos and it hurt them big time.
I also bought my first Abu-Garcia reel in nearly 20 years, a Revo Premiere Skeet Reese. I grew up fishing 5500c reels and loved them until I tried my first Shimano (a Calcutta 250) around 1992 or so. Well, so far I am impressed with the Reese model. I love the oversized handle and it is smooth, just feels good reeling it.

I own 5 of the 200B (including the 200BSF) models and 4 of the 100B's. I also have the Jap version of the !00b ... the Scorpion 1000. I love them all. A couple of them are 10 years old. As long as you maintain them they are gfreat performers and BULLET PROOF! The 100's fit my hands better.

I have been tempted to try the Revos though after all the rave reviews they've gotten.

I just can not tear up my "green monsters". They may not be the best reels, but they will last forever with min. maint. I just bought bearings off of e-bay for an overhaul.

well, i can tell you this, we are still getting them in shop.
Anglers won't give them up and they are searching for them on the auction blocks or personal ads, garage sales, just where ever they can find them. They want them restored so that tells me the green curados are still"hot reels" and in high demand. We get them in the shop in baggies, or several in one bag with instructions to make one reel out of all the parts. Anglers seem to not care, they just want the green curados again and cost is not object. Talk about a devotion, anglers have them for the curados and you would think with all the new models on market, one of them would take the place of the greenies, but not so. It is amazing for sure.

I don't get it either. To me, they are ok, but nothing special. I don't like the way the fit in my hand, not easy to palm, too large/ bulky and too tall.

I'm about to sell the 3 I have, an original green, a super free and a Castaic. There's nothing wrong with any of them, but with the current prices, I might as well sell them and upgrade.

They are a little outdated, but still a good reel. I have switched to the new Curado's.
