I have not really practiced this tactic but recently I have lost a couple of "bigger" fish for some odd reason. Nothing really over 4-5lbs but the have all came off using a few different baits and its starting to concern me. It may just be a little slump or my timing is off a bit. I may try the double hookset while fun fishing the next few days to see if it helps but my major concern would be that it could rip a hook out of a poorly hooked fish. Anyone do this regularly and if so is it more effective in your opinion?

About the only time I have used a double is when I dont feel that I got a good deep hookset the first time. Ask JimL, I thought I hit him across the head this weekend at the Media on Hubbard Creek, when I doubled up on a worm fish at the same time he was diving for the net.

You are hell with a fishing rod..... Congrats on Hubbard Creek BTW. Wish I would have went there instead of Bridgeport.

I have done it when I think I didn't get a good set with success Though be careful you can rip the jaw up on a dink.

The only time I do it is when I don't get a good hookset initially. Your probably just going through a bad run of luck.

After watching that $1000 dollar bass do a swim by and keep going after my hook set yesterday at Bridgeport and losing 15-20 fish for no reason, I may start to triple stick them. If you ever watch Larry Nixon worm fish he will stick them several times.

I do this technique occasionally if I am fishing deep and don't feel like I got a good initial hook set...but this usually only happens on deeper fish...

to me i dont think a double hook set works, its all about the first hook set. Same here if u dont get'em on the initial hookset ur better off not horsing the fish and taking your time.. What happens when the hook is barely skin hooked or something and u go roaring back with that set hookset for the second time???? May loose the fish, but that just my thinking behind it.

I see some of the Pros doing this. I have a hard time remembering too. I nearly turn the boat over so it does happen, but now often.
