A stealth type charger, a product that charges your TM batteries while on the water is the way i understood it. Not a normal bank charger like we all have. Its not official yet but my TM guy said they are sending out memos to repair shops and he thought this would be comming very soon. The reason is TM's catching on fire. Dont ask me why im not the expert.

Mine recently caught on fire, (had to use my fire extinguisher) amazingly it still worked after the fire was put out. I do not have one of these charging systems on my boat, but I was questioned over and over again about if I had one. Minn Kota did warranty mine, getting a new one.

Its not for certian from what I understood but if you have one of these charging systems you might keep an eye on this matter with your warranty. Just FYI

How did yours catch on fire? Were you charging the batteries, was it in transport or were you fishing?

I was on the foot peddle fishing, the cables started smoking and I said hummmm my TM is smoking, i quickly changed my mind to dam* my TM is on fire. I was like a deer in head lights just shaking my head for 3 seconds then got the fire extinguisher out and out out the fire. She still worked the rest of the day, this was in the WTTT tournament on Amistad. I guess thats a sales pitch in a way, lol.

Glad you are ok.

That is interesting because MK makes a charge on the run charger that hasn't been on the market real long. Maybe this year if I remember correctly. Wonder if it is all charge on the run chargers or just the Stealth?

Interesting and thanks for the heads up...amazing that it worked after being toasted.

I just used the Stealth charger as an example, it was the only one i could think of. I dont know if it is a particular brand of on the go chargers or all of them.

I don't understand how. The first thing in line with the batteries is the MOM/OFF/CON SWITCH or the MOMENTARY On/Off foot switch. No power from the charger can even get to the control board unless the switches are thrown.

I could see an issue if you're running the big motor to charge the batteries while running the trolling motor.

I'd like to see the memo.

I dont have the answere, im just repeting what I was told. I was asked several times if I had a on the water charger or anything else hooked up to my TM batteries other than my normal bank charger and I dont. Im not a TM expert, actually this is the first problem ive ever had with one. In a way it was a good thing, i learned out to take a TM apart and mount a spare, something I had never had to do before.

If I had to guess I would say it has to do with the charging voltage or amperage. Some of the new alternators put out some juice. I was told by a MG rep at a BPS spring fishing classic, to always un-plug the tm whan charging it or else the digital board could be damaged.

Wow! That's wild, I have a Minn Kota that is getting hot. It stopped working on me at fork for a bit and then started working again. What is the warranty period? Mine is 2 years old, you think it's covered? I hope it doesn't catch on fire!!!
That is strange, I have a 3 bank battery charger.

I looked at a schematic on my Max 80 after the dealer told me to always unplug it while charging and saw that the main circuit board is "ahead" of the on/off switch on the foot control. I installed a on/off switch on one of the battery cables where I wouldn't have to unplug it every time I charged it.Kinda dumb the way they made it but that's the way it is.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.
