I caught one a couple of weeks ago that also had blood all over the tail. An old fishing buddy of mine told me that is has to do with "fanning" the beds or something like that.

That's a great fish! If you caught her this weekend, I'm sure she put up one hell of a fight. They are really healthy and really angry right now!
