I'm looking purchasing a Blue Wave center console boat. It is 22 ft and will have a new 1999 Mercury 200 HP Optimax on it. The engine is new. I would appreciate any comments concerning Blue Wave center consoles and comments about purchasing a brand new motor that is already five years old.

I can only comment on the 22 Blue wave, I have one and love it. My previous boat was a 18.9 bluewave. I have really enjoyed the bigger boat. I am assuming you are getting a great deal on the motor? are you getting any warrenty ? I would research that model merc on some boating forums , like "thehulltruth.com" . Good luck MO

You will have a hard time trying to find anyone bad talking the bluewave. I love mine. As far as the mercury optimax I really do not know. All i have heard, is good. I like my Yamaha four stroke.

Thanks Mo, Guideone, and Charlie bluewave. Mo, the motor is new out of the box and has the complete warranty. I'll check out the website you mentioned. Thanks!

Allfish...Prior to buying my first center console I looked at a lot of boats and it came down to some some distinct differences that helped me decide.
They either have a liner or they do not have a liner. Once you decide that - start looking at the set-up and storage. The most important item is the engine...spend more time researching the engine than you do the boat.
Make sure the boat matches how you are planning to use it...open water fishing = bigger boat, etc...

Fuzzy,
With all that in mind...what boat did you end up with, and what engine?

ShawnQ...I looked for 3-4 months and could not find a pre-owned three year old center console with a liner and the engine I wanted, so I gave up and bought a new Bay Stealth, 2230 with a 200 Yamaha in August. There are many things I like about it, I know other boats offer the same things, but this was the right boat for my family and how we use it.
We fish a lot of open water at Texoma and even on the lakes around West Fort Worth where I live. We tube, ski, joy ride, fish shallows, trees anything we decide to do.
Just my opinion, but I used the experience I had with my previous boat to help me decide which boat will work best and what I wanted in the new boat.
I got to admit...the best feeling was when we decided what we were going to do and all that hunting and research was over with...

Fuzzy,
Would you mind giving the specifics on why you went with the yamaha? You can email me to help keep this thread from being cluttered. S_Queeney@hotmail.com
I myself would prefer a liner boat (more of a fishing only platform), but I am debating on engines. It's good to hear everyone's point of view. I've been looking at Blue Waves pretty hard myself, that or Nitro Bay.
Thanks! Shawn
