I have always run super unleaded in my boat but with the twin 26 gallon tanks and the price of fuel....man it's expensive! Do you guys run regular or super in your boats? I also use the directed amount of Yamaha Ring Free with every tank so I am wondering if I am just wasting money with the higher priced gas?

Thanks in advance for any opinions you guys have.

I run regular it is what the manufacturer suggests and the motor is tuned for.

my Opti requires premium gas....

I did the math on it, and on my boat its only about 7 dollars difference between the reg and prem gas...

I run Super Unleaded.

I had a boat shop tell me it ok to run regualar gas, I ran it for about 4 months and I switched back to Super Unleaded.

My engine runs better with Super unleaded.

I was told from mercury mechanic to run 89 octane gas to clean up carbon. 2003 250 pro xb. He said not to run 91 or higher.

I would say more importantly than Regular vs Premium is where you purchase the fuel. With the prices going up, people are going to purchase the cheapest they can for the most part I believe. So the Premium fuel may sit in the tanks longer therefore picking up more water and stuff while being in the tank. On the other hand the Regular I believe will cycle through the tanks quicker becuase of the cost, therefore making it "Fresher" fuel which I think these motors would like more than the 2% or 3% increase in octane.

Just some thought I have gone through in my head and something that my mechanic has advised me to watch for.

Tommy and his wrench team at Rockwall Marine recommend using a quality (i.e. Chevron w/ Techron) mid-grade gasoline unless specified otherwise by the mfr.

I've run both reg and mid in my Yamaha V-Max since '01

More importantly, I dribble a couple of oz's of Stabil and Ring Free in EVERY tank!

I stopped at a gas station in Kinder, LA on my way back this weekend and the super was same price as the regular unleaded. Figured it was probably getting older and they were trying to move it.

I run regular with my 2004 150 XR6. I also add Quickleen to every tank.
