I need to mount a skimmer transducer in the hull. I have never done it before. I have a Skeeter and I can see where the transducer was mounted before. I assume I'm gonna need to sand that down (it looks like a yellow hard substance) then I need marine goop? Is this correct. Does the transducer need to be levelwith the ground or level with the boat or does it matter? Whats the best product to use? Any other tips would be a huge help.

yes sand off the area.make it level as you can.. what I do is level the boat, then level the transducer in the boat.If not level at least have the front slighty lower than the back.. Get some Lowrance or like "glue". build a little dam around where the transducer will sit with putty or silicone. pore your glue in and sit the ducer down and wiggle it a little to get any air out.. I then put a sock with sand on top to hold it till it dries..You CAN use silicon, epoxy, ect but do not use the 5 minute or quick dry type, it will have air bubbles in it...

Use a putty type epoxy such as PCV 7. I think I got the letters in the right order. It comes in 2 parts and looks like 2 film cannisters. Home Depot sells it. The reason that I would use it is you will not have problems with air bubbles. Also, it is just like what Lowrance sents with their in hull tranducers and it is not runny. Do not use silicone and definitely get it as level as possible.

you know, stump, I try to tell everyone not to use silicone, but when my Lowrance "glue" turned loose ,the night before a tourny and I only had some clear silicone, so guess what I did..two years later, its still there..

The problem with silicone can be air bubbles. If you do not stir it at all you might be OK.

take some plumbers putty and build a dam with it where you want the xducer to go. Use some polyester resin and pour it in the dam about 1/2 full. Place xducer inside of dam filled with resin, and place something on top to hold it in place.

I was told by an installer to use Bondo Lite,you can get it @ Auto stores.
