I am new to trying to catch a specific species of fish other than saying I was going to catfish or fish. I have fished for 20 years and took whatever I caught.

I fish a 10 acre government lake that I know is loaded with crappie. I caught several large ones a couple of years back. However, going back and using a jig like I did back then is producing nothing. At this time of year, where is the best place to find them? Keep in mid this is nothing more than an overgrown pond. No bridges etc.
