Well that is my primary tactic and many more on the TFF. you need start with a range of jigs from maybe a 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2. Basic colors black/blue, green pumkin and whatever suits you fantcy. I have four different rod length from 7' on up. the ones I use mainly is heavy action. some reels have braid and some flor. I am sure you will get plenty of help on this and not sure if I was. it is 4:30 in the morning and I am at work and fixing to go home. I am dead tierd. good luck
Thanks,

It depends on the type of cover you are planning to fish. I mostly fish Rayburn and Toledo, which means hydrilla. When fishing hydrilla you need a heavy jig,3/4 to 1 1/4oz.The edge of the grass can be any where from 8' to 20' deep. I will usually start on the outside edge and pitch the jig to visible grass and let fall on slack line (be sure to watch your line for a twitch on the fall) once it hits bottom, bunce it 3 or 4 times and bring it up.Work your way in to shallower depths if about 100 drops dont get you bit. Black and blue or green pumpkin are the primary colors. The best way to learn this is to leave everything else at home and go out and start dropping that jig! After about 5000 drops you will start to catch on. I hope this helps.

there really are no wrong ways to fish a jig but usualy if you slow down then your gonna get more bites. make sure to pick up a wide range of weights, designs, colors, ect.... 3 things i focus on the most while jig fishing are paying attention to my line watching for twitches or movement, slowing down my presentaation, and making jusre my jig is very close to cover. hope this helps

These guys are right. I also suggest using A 3/8oz jig to start out.You can get really confused whenit comes to sizes, colors and head designes, so make sure to keep it simple at first. A good all around head design is just a round head. We make these in a finesse style in a 5/16th oz wich would be perfect for just startingf out. I would keep the colors basic black and blue, Green Gourd, or Mo. Craw. Pair i up with a 4" twin tail grub and just start pitching it anywhere you would normally throw a worm. If you have any quetions feel free and ask. Gabe Spencer Black Angel Jig Co. (918) 944 9279 www.blackangeljigs.com

THAT is great advice, bassmn, and exactly how I learned to fish a jig.
Put two rods in the boat, and a handfull of jigs. Went to a local lake near the house and started the process. After a while, and actually missing a couple of fish, things began to click. After that, practice, practice, practice.

Good post. I have never been a jig fisherman myself until last year and im still trying to figure out how to fish them.

I started fishing a jig this year with some great results. I caught a 5, 7-8, and my personal best 10-5 the same day on a lake in Oklahoma. I was dragging the jig like a Carolina rig and my partner was hopping his. I got the bites and he didn't. They were a 5/16 black blue with a speed craw trailer. The lake was a traditional Oklahoma lake, no grass or standing timber and lots of rock. Also, I use floroucarbon and can really feel the bite.

you've got some good advice here.let me add first i am a jig guy i can't hardly go to the lake year round without throwing a jig some.alot of the times a jig really seems to be a big fish bait.i have no reason why,it just is.you can do so much with a jig the rigging possibilites are endless.start simple and be open minded......rick
