I fish Conroe for bass on a semi-regular basis, but I am taking my young nephew out Sunday for his first real fishing trip. I figured it would be much easier to let him fish for crappie than bass, so I am looking for any info on the current crappie fishing/pattern on Conroe. I am just trying to make his first time out a good one if possible. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JD

Front just blew by this morning. May have to give it at least 2 to 3 days so they move back to the shallows.

Temps will be in the low 80's and pretty much sunny Saturday and Sunday, so I am hoping it will be decent.

Depending on the age of your nephew, I'd say stick to doing what you do best. Trying to "put" somebody on fish that you aren't that accomplished at catching yourself is asking a bunch if you ask me. Take him bass fishing, you know where and how to catch them. Crappie are just like any other fish, if you don't spend the time in targeting them then it will just be blind luck finding some to catch.

Anyway, the crappie are at the tail end of the spawn and they will either be on the bank at the back of creeks on the southwest side of the lake or 7-9 foot flats on the north end of the lake or you an target the ones that have done their thing and find some brushpiles in the 10-14 foot range. It's a [censored] shoot right now on where they will be.

Buy a box of red worms and hit the 1097 bridge columns for some monster bream. In fact, that might be the most "sure" thing short of chumming up some catfish under the bridge.

Greg,

I will be launching from Stow-a-way, and 1097 was my backup plan. Guess it would be best to just start there.

Thanks for the details, its much appreciated.
