Well. I had time yesterday and decided to do some scouting. I've now got a small 2 man boat since the other boats are sold and I wanted to find an "easy" place to put in up on the north end of Hubbard so once the river calms down a bit, we can bass fish up there all summer.
After talking to a few folks and doing some google maps work I found a place over off 205 where a creek goes all the way into the lake (just north of the power lines on the East side) which looked like it would work. Once it dumped in, it should be a short treck NW up to the river. So was the plan.
Launched by 205 and proceeded West down the creek. I was VERY excited at first since there was a trememdous amount of lay downs, flooded vegetation, etc that was there. After working an estimated 1.5 miles of that creek, no bass....I did not see a whole lot of activity and was a bit concerned, but kept heading out the creek to see if I could get to the main lake. I did not want to get on the lake in 40+ MPH winds yesterday, but wanted to plan out the next trip anyway.
(small note: if anyone is concerned about the possum, snake or gar population on Hubbard don't be. They are all in abundant supply)
So I get to a small area where a secondary creek cuts of to the South, but I keep heading west. Unfortanately there are several BIG trees that have fallen across the creek so there was zero chance to get through there. So I backtracked to the secondary creek. I followed that all the way out and could get to the main lake from there (just south of the powerline on the East side).
The bad thing is that my plan won't work. Even with two batteries and a 55 pound thrust motor on the 10' buster, it would still be another 1 to 1.5 miles from that creek mouth up to the mouth of the river. So a 2 mile (est) treck to get out the creek and more to go just to get to the river from there. That makes for a long haul and round trip when I am dependent on battery power!
All in all at least I was not working and had a good time (even though only a crappie found it's way on my line). I have attached some pics that I thought were pretty cool.
