My son is trying to fix up a boat with a 70hp force on it, the motor is not peein when in neutral, it will in gear but not in neutral. I pulled the lower unit and checked the impeller, it looks to be new, any ideas other than ditch the force? Thanks for any advice.

check the liner and stainless plate for any grooves, if in doubt replace entire kit, also make shure the rubber insert is in the cap where the water tube is inserted ,if its gone or damaged it will leak a lot

most likely cause of your pee trouble is enlarged prostate, but go ahead and check the nipple at the discharge outlet for debris, and the hose, too. Has the motor overheated? If there's an overtemp warning horn, might want to test it.

In neutral it rarely has water coming out of the pee hole, and when it does it's only for short intervals. My engine is running normal temps and rund good. I've always assumed that the force has the pee hole hooked after the thermostat and the only time it pees is when the thermostat is open. I could be wrong though.

The drive shaft going into the lower unit is ALWAYS spinning. So the water pump impeller is always spinning as well. At idle, it does have the least amount of water going through the powerhead.
But if you leave it idling long enough, the powerhead water jackets will fill up, and it start peeing.
The only reason why it would pee more while in gear, is the higher the rpms, the more water the pump produces.
Most engines tend to run the hottest while at idle.
Do as above, check your water lines and the nipple. Dirt dobbers are really bad about trying to get in there.
If the engine hasn't had a water pump kit (Not just the impeller) in the last 5-6 years, I would go ahead and put one in. Make sure you get new baseplates and housings.
