Anyone on here fish Tyler for crappie? I usually fish Palestine but live close to Tyler. I caught 5 14 to 15 inch crappie but did not establish any type of pattern. The water temp was 69 to 70. I found nothing in the shallows. I wonder if the spawn is over or has not started. I would appreciate any info not looking for your spots. Need a starting depth.

Aubrey, I normally fish Palestine myself but have been leaving my boat at home and fishing at Fritz's fishing barge on Tyler. There have been alot of 15-16" crappie caught fishing at about 9 1/2 to 11' using minnows, not much luck on jigs.

The females are still holding out in 15 to 20 feet of water, they are full of eggs but the egg sacks still soft, they will probably be ready in a week or so.Not sure where those males are nesting though.

Appreciate the feedback. Been fishing off and on the past 10 days on Palestine, and not having any luck with Jigs at all.

Haven't really been in the deeper water, but up shallow. Probably a large part of my problem. I know that several crappie anglers that live up in my cove, have said that the when they did catch some, they were generally males.

I live across the lake from the Villages.

Aubrey ,
When I used to live close to lake tyler ( mid-80's)
I fished the creek where the old omen ramp is on the east lake.
I caught a lot of crappie casting tube jigs up and down the
west bank. I would keep the boat in 10-12 ft of water and
chunk at the bank.
I remember a cove across the creek and towards the lake,
from the ramp, with several boathouses , that cove
was good this time of year.

I caught fish on Palestine this weekend, some were as deep
as 19 ft on brushpiles, still full of eggs.

Good luck
Mo

It looks like the crappie may not have come into the shallow yet. The males should be there.

My boss fishes Tyler only, says they have not caught any shallower than 6-8 feet yet. No jig bite to speak of.

Hit Palestine Friday eve and Sat morning. Great fishing Friday, but nothing Sat.
