The discussion on warmouth vs. green sunfish made me realize how lame I am when it comes to IDing the various sunfish or bass or catfish. Largemouth vs. smallmouth bass easy, but what about spotted vs. Guadalupe etc.? Channel cat vs. blue cat?

The point is that I need to put in more work on knowing my fish. Which drove me to looking. So far I have the TPWD site here
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/#fish and I intend to keep on looking and adding. Anyone else with some good reference sites?

Here's another good one.

And BTW I zoomed in on his picture and he is a green sunfish.

To go along with Dr. Bonner's website (listed above) the book it is in addition to is a very valuable (and quite affordable) resource.

My website is eventually going to have a "species ID for anglers" but it is a slow slow process.

Dr. Whiteside offers a fishes ID class down at Texas State University's Aquatic Research Facility a couple times a year. I took this class early this year, and it is very good.

While you won't come away with the knowledge to ID every fish in TX, you will come away with a better base and the knowledge needed to key fishes more accurately.

My fishes ID library now consists of 18 books, and grows a little every year.

This is a passion of mine, the abality to catch and ID as many of the fishes in TX is huge. My lifelist is not online yet, but this is something I plan on getting up soon. At the same time, I'll be providing the means for TXFishes.com's members to publish their lifelist as well.

Bret that sounds cool, having a lifelist.
I grew up in Florida, and have some pretty interesting catches I could put in there.

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

Now wouldn't an FLFishes contest be interesting to follow (or be in if one lived there)
