I've had similar thoughts and have decided to build a pirogue, LSU ag department has free plans, and I've figured the material list at under $100 Hope you have superior balance; pirogues are pretty tippy.

Yes - bought it from their website - at the time they gave free shipping which was cool. I think Cabelas sells them - but they don't keep them here at our location and they were quite a bit more expensive. The floorboard works great - I can stand and cast OK, as long as the wind isn't too bad.

What size trolling motor do you have? And also is the 8ft big enough for one adult and a 12 year old?

john h - I have a MK Endura 30lb. The SeaEagle 8 is big enough for 1 adult & 1 kid. I take my 10 yr old out, put him in a "spiderleg" type chair up front and he thinks he's Bill Dance! If I was to do it all again - I'd get the bigger one - its around 10'. Just a bit more leg room - I'm 6'4".
I wouldn't recommend two people standing at the same time though!

I have a 10ft inflatable bass hunter that I'll sell you for 40 bucks, I just have to get it back from my friend who has never used it. I have actually taken it out with another person (pretty cramped) on Grapevine back in the twin coves area with no problem. Just make sure you don't go out on a windy day. They are great because you can take them almost anywhere because they are so light.
