Will braided line work on a spining reel? Do you atach baits directy to the braind or use a leader? What brand braid is your favorite if you use for spinning?

Yes, braid works fine on a spinning reel. Just make sure that you put a little mono backing to prevent the braid from slipping on the spool. You can tie baits directly to the braid or add a leader, really depends on water clarity and preference. I prefer to use a leader, about 6' (mono or fluoro, uni-to-uni knot), and you won't have to add a new section every time you retie. I'm kinda partial to PowerPro 6/30 on my spinning reel.

I use P-Line Spectrex braid and love it on my spinning rig. It eliminates all the line twist you get with mono. I know I should manually open/close the bail, but I never do. Generally I tie on some mono/fluoro leader with a uni-uni knot, but not sure I need it.

careful grandpa.. it will cut ya faster than a hot knife in butter! I use 30# spiderwire stealth. anytime I use leaders with braid- i pop them. I just tye direct now. no effect on the fish, compared to before( bitewise).

I also use 50 lb braid on my casting rigs and that is why I made a stick to pull on it with to prevent cutting my hands or breaking a reel. Got a 1.5" dowel and some 1.5" vinyl tubing, slide the dowel in the tubing and staple or glue it. The tubing keeps the line from slipping on the dowel and you can then get enough grip to break most any braid, or at least the 50 lb I use.

If i go that way I will just use a lead of smaller # than the braid
When I started using a pflueger direct drive casting reel way the hell back in the late 50's all we had to put on was old black braided line. We just went back a few years

I use Power Pro 20lb on all my spinning reels it has the diameter of 6lb tesst Mono. I use a Fluorocarbon or Mono leader. Tie it on with a Uni to Uni knot splice. Use a leader long enough to wrap around the spool 3 times when it is completely reeled up. What this does it take the pressure off of the knot when you get a big fish up by te boat. Works Great..you will love it! No more wind knots and tangles.
