I think I'll pass. I've used anise oil before on shrimp for channels and it worked pretty good.

The shallow bite goes all 12 months. Most think when the water temps drop all cats run deep but winter is the primary time I really look forward to the shallows!

You may not get the numbers you do in the spring but the fish are there and the BIG fish are there!

unclepugly:

i have a track pt 185, dk and big marv punch bait, and chum with sour grain; is this a good combination? I always prefer to fish shallow too; I need to learn how to throw a cast net i guess, so i can waylay some shad too

That sounds great for channels....we're after blues, and big blues at that and that means fresh shad. I don't mess with punchbait that often but if I was going strictly after channel cats I would.

The shallows yall talk about fishing are they up on the bank or jsut shallow flats? Also are shallow areas near deeper water like creeks better or not? Lastly does it have to be clear water or will vegitation mess you up?

Thanks for any help and advice. i mainly fish choke canyon so I know it is a different part of the state but same info should apply

Same questions as RedChevy. How do you know which shallow water to start with?
