I was there a few days back and the water temp is right for the spawn. I would concentrate on backs of creeks on the north side of the lake. There were a few beds the other day, but nothing on them. I think the fish should be in full swing with the next full moon. I have done well with a wacky rig this time of year, something small will work. Also, you can't beat a 6" lizard during the spawn. I would also reccommend a lower pound test line for this lake, or maybe flouro if you got it.

I fished Saturday morning. Started with a small, male white bass mid lake. Proceeded to catch a couple of small bass in 15' of water. Lost a solid fish at the boat and caught a decent male in a brush pile in 20'. And then the fishing turned on. Between 10:45 and 11:30 it was either a fish in the boat or a solid miss. The fish were between 1' and 10' hanging on a secondary point mid lake. All fish were caught on a shakey jig. About as good as it gets. No real hawgs but lots of keepers (all released, to be caught another day).

Canyon Lake for 5 days? Can you say boring? I can. Have fun catching dink bass. If I had five days to burn Canyon lake would be the last lake I would go to. Try Choke Canyon or Amistad...

Canyon is not boring...challenging, frustrating. I fish Fayette as my reular lake, yeah cathing 4lb bass there is easy. And I must admit, never caugt any over 2.5lbs at Canyon and very few at that. Being from the flatlands and dirty water of the Brazos River bottom ( less than a mile away ) the lake in my neighborhood produces nice bass with water visibility about 6 inches. Canyon has blue water, sailboats, rocks that aren't man-made, and water that has visibility measured in feet. It has been our favorite lake to "get away" for years. Also, it's a little over a 3 hour drive from downtown Sugar Land(we never say Houston). Guadalupe Bass and Smallmouth...are dinks, and yeah if I can I will have fun fishing "Lite".

If you know how to fish deeper water, you can catch some fish. There are Smallmouth Bass even Walleye in Canyon Lake. It has a river that is fun to navigate for several miles. You are likely to see Turkeys and Deer. Tons of Stripers and Whites. Falcon its not, but its a beautiful Lake with lots to do, good access and a nice little town with decent food.

yep, you can see tons of deer...but the jet skis, ugh!Sailboats are rarely a problem...you give them right of way. I used to dive there and yes, the fish are deep.Summertime is waterskiers and jet boats and jet fleas and just add some alcohol...oh boy, lookout. That is why I go in the fall and spring. I started to visit the area in the early 70's and you had the place to yourself.

Heard that. I live ten minutes from the ramp at Canyon and the jet skis and ski boats will get out of cotrol here soon enough. There are good fish to be caught in this lake, don't think there aren't. Took a short half day trip out on Canyon back in Sept. best five went 18-19 lbs. That is not an Amistad or Choke kind of weight, but I will take that all day being ten minutes down the road. During the warm months I will hit the water at daylight and fish until 10 or 11 , just about the time the skiers get past their hangovers. Pretty good topwater lake and always a cheap trip for me.

Fished last Saturday afternoon for about 3 hrs, had six on white crank. Not much boat traffic, some sail boats, but no jets.

I live 6 miles from canyon & love the challenge of finesse fishing for the blacks & smallmouth that live there! Always fun even when I dont catch a mess of fish which is more often than not however, I still like going for the convinience & the scenery!

At least at Canyon you don't have to worry about the big waves I ran into at Choke yesterday.5 to 7 footers.
