No unfortunately Decker (Walter E. Long) is run by the City of Austin. If it was run by the LCRA it would be managed better. One thing that bothers me most is going around the lake and seeing federally funded boat ramps with no roads to them. Until they start building some high dollar condos near that lake like down town that park will never receive the funding of our city counsel. I have a PDF map of Decker if some one wants it but I don’t know how to post it on the site to down load.

atexon,

I've only been on the lake once in june. Didn't stay long so i didn't get a good look at it. A friend of mine used to work for the parks department and thinks she can find the topo of when it was built. She just moved so it may take a little time .I'll post if I come up with any thing.

There used to be a map, which wasn't very good but I am told is the only map of the lake, on austinbassfishing.com

TPWD does not have a contour map for Walter E. Long Lake...

History of Walter E. Long Lake
Decker Creek was dammed in the late Sixties to form Walter E. Long Lake. Acres of East Austin green space and this public lake are surrounded by barbed-wire fencing, preventing escaped convicts from the nearby Austin Jail from taking a little leafy refuge. The city of Austin Web site reports: "Walter E. Long Lake is currently used primarily to cool the generators at the Long Power Plant. In response to citizen complaints, investigators find an average of five pollution spills each year in Decker Creek; the most common spill type is sewage, followed by petroleum and sediment.

Sunday - Most of the day the lake was covered in heavy fog. Fish were suspended and scattered in deep water. Fishing was reported good in the discharge. Seem fishing was better on the warm side. We caught 4 on a c-rig in 25ft of water on drop offs.

There is good fishing on Decker. I have been fishing the lake for over 10 years. I have cought a couple 8# and a lot of 4# LMB's. And of course a lot of 2 and under. One thing about the lake, is sometimes it is on and other times you can't catch any thing. But, over all I think it is a nice little lake to fish.

We fished Decker on Saturday. We caught 4 largemouths in the slot and one white on Trick worms in 20 ft of water.

I fished Decker Sunday, and found that the far side away from the boat ramp was colder than the ramp side.

I wonder if they reversed the flow.

It seems the intake is now the discharge,a nd the discharge is the intake.
