Pretty much closed off, no open boat ramp. Why?

Well I did some research. Seems it was more polluted back in the 70's than it is now. Lots of people were eating fish out of that lake to include myself. It appears a recent assessment has good reason not to eat the fish. That said why not let people fish?

I grew up in Grand Prairie. Decades in GP. My father retired from LTV(Grand Prairies big defense contractor and largest employer) after 40 years. It has also been known for decades that it is a shallow polluted mud hole w/some really good bass fishing. Heck I swam in it w/a bunch of other kids back in the 70’s. In the 80’s I bass fished it and you could run all the way across the lake by the toll bridge and it would never get over 8’ deep. I remember 25’ being the deepest spot right at the dam. Back there behind LTV and the Navel Air Force base and runway it was amazing how much old rusty barrels, boats, junk….pollution you could visually see from years of dumping into the lake back there. If memory serves(and it doesn’t always🤪) Mountain Creek was part of a “Super Fund” EPA cleanup many, many years ago. Not sure how all that turned out. All that said many of us would love to fish it but there are no ramps open to the public. The lake is owned by the power company but the only public ramp which is over on the east side of the lake is on Dallas Baptist University’s property and they fenced it off years ago. The ramp is right at the power plants hot water discharge. Sad. Decent bass fishing and real good fishing up the river (Mountain Creek) which has good water quality as it comes straight out of the dam from Joe Pool. You can(could) access Mountain Creek above the lake w/a kayak and their was bank fish in around the lake. [Linked Image]

There are several ways to access the creek between Mountain Creek and Joe Pool.....just not with a boat.

They have made most of the east side so there is not place to park. Just seems a shame. When I was a kid My father an I legally duck hunted the south end of the lake.
