Got to the lake at daybreak & hit my honey hole...fished it for about an hour with no bites. Headed to honey hole #2 & caught 6...including the biggest one of the day...4 pounds 2 oz. Thats the 1st pic. Got a few more moving from spot to spot and around 11 am it was like someone flipped a switch. The bite was one fire for about an hour with the bass chasing shad. Ended up with 29 & lost two real good ones at the boat. Water temp was mid 70s in most areas I fished, & the lake is about a foot low for the annual winter draw down. No sign of any otters, so now that I take my camera will probably never see them again. Saw Zane on the water & he was poppin bass as well.

Great day of fishing. thumb If you fish regularly you hit some of those days when they turn on. Those are much more fun than when you get skunked. roflmao The fish look really healthy.

Thanks all...Chuck...And Crappie & he occasional catfish.

Just curious...How many of you still fish for sunfish in the winter ? Or, does everyone target other species ?

I donโ€™t target them in the winter, but I catch a few in the winter. I think they group up and move to different parts of the lake. If you can find them you can catch them. I often find them in 25 to 30 feet of water, but as deep as 65 feet. And sometimes they are suspended. hooked

Barry...so when you "find them" is it by accident or on purpose ? I have to assume it is by accident since you say you don't target them in winter...correct ?

That is correct. I find them by accident. A few times I have run across big schools of suspended fish on the depth finder and determined they were big groups of large bluegill. I caught lots of them by dropping a worm in the school. The hard part is staying with the school. They move off like striper. roflmao I have also found them on deep structure in the winter, but they are not consistently on the same structure from day to day. I have not found a good way to target them in the winter. But they are out there somewhere. bang

nice day on the water Steve and great pictures as usual
Note: I seen a facebook post from Denton saying he caught 85, most in the general area where you caught that big one. He mentioned that there were boats all around him. His lure of choice was a rattletrap.

Zane...I agree that the rattle trap would do good but I don't use them for 2 reasons...1st of all I hate treble hooks...especially 2 sets. 2nd, I want a fast sinking bait that will get down to the bottom fast...where the bigger fish are.
