My oldest son just moved to Kingsland for his first "real" job. Needless to say I plan to make the first trip of many over there soon and wanted some input as to maybe best ramp access close to Kingsland and any possible navigational hazards between Kingsland and LBJ main lake. Any ideas on historically successful patterns would be appreciated as well. Thank you in advance.

I'm no help with your question but I love going to Kingsland. I usually play golf. There is a nice ramp in the RV park on Lake Bucanan down by the dam.

If I may ask, where is your son working?

You may, he was hired as an apprentice lineman for Central Texas Electric Coop at the Kingsland office. Best value public golf course advice would be appreciated as well. cheers

Kingsland community park is not a bad little ramp. It is a little weird, parking is up the hill from the ramp and there is an automated gate in between. So you end up having to pay each time you want to back down the ramp. But it's $5 each time which ends up the same $10 as a lot of the other ramps in the area.

There's an island there just down from where the Llano and Colorado arms meet. It's not hard to see but it's shallow around it. There's another shallow area down the lake but I believe they're all marked with bouys pretty well. If you're using any sort of lake maps you'll see what I mean. I don't know of any areas where you have to worry about timber or stumps or things like that.

The best tip I can give is in a lot of areas there is this moss that grows on the bottom and it will make it hard to fish bottom contact baits. We call it snot moss but I don't really know what it is. It isn't grass, though there are plenty of areas on the lake that have good grass. So if you're fishing shallow just be prepared for that and bring some weightless baits or something that stays more up in the water column.

I have no advice for you on the subjects requested. I want to thank your son for his willingness to work in an inherently dangerous job. Linemen are special people and we don’t thank them enough.

The 2 courses I play when I go there are Lighthouse CC and the Legends Golf course. Both are very unique. Lighthouse is shorter but requires some thinking and shot making skills. Legends is longer and more straightforward. Both are open to the public and are a good bang for the buck.

Hidden Falls in Marble Falls is a decent track and pretty cheap. I like putting in at Bluebriar ramp about midlake. $10 launch fee, but in a nice protected cove and decent ramp. Be prepared for the jet skis and wave boats...EVERYWHERE. Those are the two dangers on that lake. Some good grass finally coming back in and good size bass in the lake, along with quite a few sand bass as well. If your son gets good at skipping he'll have a good time fishing the docks. And yes, the filamentous algea on the bottom of the lake is frustrating but ya just gotta get used to it. Some good ledges and lots of structure around there. Lots of rocks as well. If you go north of the Kingsland bridge up towards the dam be careful, lots of big rocks that will ruin your day and your prop! Good luck!
