I am going down there next week for business and am considering taking a day to go fish. Who has fished it recently? Any guide info?

Mike Bates is your guide. Fishing has been dismal and the final boat ramp might or might not be open still, it’s been day to day on when it’ll close.
Call Mike and see what he says, but don’t expect to have the glory days of old. Some might say that “it’s on fire” though, that’s a joke for about 3 guys here that understand it.

I was there Tuesday to check out the Calliham ramp, it is right on the edge of being closed. I watched a guy try launch a big bass boat off a tandem trailer and his back wheels were on the edge of the ramp when he waded out to see if he was going to have a problem. It looked like the drop off at the end of the ramp was significant. The river at the Highway 99 bridge is the lowest I've seen it since I started fishing Choke in 1999-2000. No flow, and over grown with water hyacinth. TP&W will need to do some serious brush and tree clearing as well as excavating to get the Highway 99 launch serviceable when the lake comes back up. I'm trying to find somewhere else to fish for crappie this winter.

My last trip until the lake catches water was Monday. Launching is too sketchy and I’m not trying to tear up my boat. I hope the lake gets a good rest for a while and when she catches 20’ of water, gonna get the new lake affect and should be fun. For now RIP!
PS, a kayak with the devil scope set up on it, launched at SS would be lights out for crappie!

I have an absolute guarantee to break the drought. All I’d have to do, is to sell my house down there and it would rain cats & dogs for weeks. I seem to have this effect on weather and computers. Bought my house down there in 2018 and the lake has only dropped since. Started a new job in Gillespie county a month ago and it hasn’t rained up there since. I’m a drought maker!

Grout, we’re gonna need you to sell! Yah, take one for your South Texas brothers. I’d sell, my wife won’t let me. I’m starting to think that I should just sell the house, old boat and find a new hobby. Just not sure what that hobby could possibly be though. No water in Canyon, Medina, Amistad or Falcon.

There's always Dunlap. It's decent now for 3-4lb class fish, but it should start kicking them out again in another 3-4 years.

Keep the house, move in, sell the boat and buy a center console and start ocean fishing?😉🤘
