My brother and I were planning to do Choke Canyon next week with a 21 footf Ranger on a tandem trailer. We have been fairly adventurous in the past with launching at Falcon from makeshift gravel ramps. Are people getting stuck on the Calliham ramp? We would be okay with idling around the lake if necessary.

The park said there would be NO launching off the banks, when it closes, boats are done. The fishing sucks anyways, you’d be better off going to almost any other lake. But if you’re determined to go there, Calliham ramp might possibly be open still next week, I’m actually surprised it’s open now.

I launched my 21' ranger on Tuesday . It was interesting to say the least. There is a huge drop off at the end of the ramp designated by red buoys, just past that there is a hump of probably wash-out debris which makes it unable to lower your motor. I could feel the keel rubbing on the bottom. I was able to idle out with the prop just under the water but you need to watch your depth finder because it's quite shallow for a long way before it gets deep enough to lower the motor and get up on plane. My buddy and I made it to the dam with no problem but it sure looks different with a lot of new stuff popping up since 3 weeks ago. The early bite was fair but nothing big . Ended the day around noon with about a dozen dinks. I'm really surprised that ramp is still open, and if I were you I'd try somewhere else. Only saw about 4-5 other boats and by the way, loading the boat was no fun either.

Well all I need is about 2-3 foot less water and a bunch of hydrilla to grow in and I will have a nice, close private kayak lake...starting my Christmas list now.

You’ll get your wish on the 3’ less water, you won’t get the hydrilla part though. Almost all of Calliham cove will be closed when the lake drops 3 more feet.
