As someone fairly new to fly fishing, this video really helped my casting. I ran to the Frio this weekend and was much more accurate with much less effort just using a few simple tips.

Thanks, SAdoc: I was flycasting (poorly) last Thursday. I'm sure I was doing all the things Brian pointed out as bad habits. I'm going to the Redfish flats tomorrow, and will try to follow his advice. In fact, I think I'll watch that again, just before bedtime. Or maybe during tonight's VP debate! IslandJim

I had to bust out my Mel Krieger Essence of Fly Casting DVD after reading this thread. I always liked how he taught and he sure could cast!

I’ve hired 3 fly guides over the last few years in various states. . Not one told me to start the cast with the tip of the rod at the water or strip with the tip touching the water. It’s amazing how much easier it is to cast if you start with the rod tip low and have your thumb at the top of the cork.
