Go get on em! Big healthy bullreds out there eating everything. Get some dead shrimp to catch live sand trout or croaker or even hard heads. Then put those out on a big circle hook and the fight is on. They eating em.... sardines.... shad....whatever. Good fishing with willing participants. Great stuff.

Recipe:
-Cut into chicken nugget size finger food pieces.
-Use the red liquid crab boil concentrate in some buttermilk for seasoning. Let it soak a lil. If you like a lot of seasoning use more and let it soak longer.
-Then roll it in half and half with Louisiana Fish Fry and flake mashed potatoes in the box. Fry it up. Never any complaints folks love it kids love it.

You can also buy your second tag on the water and digital tag em.....

Yall go get em! Get on my calendar if you want to get out.

Howdy! I'm in Alvin so I go out of Galv/Freeport a lot. But I trailer my boat up and down the coast. Had a house in Rockport for 30 yrs so POC/Rockport often if customer wants a couple days and has a spare bed for me as well LOL. Run a lot of duck hunts like this out of my duck blind boat....shoot ducks right out of the boat anywhere it floats.. you don't need waders or nuthin.... Having said that mostly Galv right now. Freeport when the weather is cooperating to let us get down the beachfront.

Reds are indeed busy. Normal day you might see one, sometimes two big packs working. Sunday saw six, with a lot of 3-5 fish pods working the back lakes. It was game on for sure.

There's a 38" rocket attached to that line if you look close.

Any tips on finding sand trout? I have caught them at the jetties before when out there fishing for bull red if the current is too strong? I have caught a lot of them in the past but never targeted them.

Go deep like 15' plus with bits of shrimp off the chanel. Sea Wolf Park drop off.... ship slips.... deep hole around the Selma.... back off the jetties 100 yards or so.... around the bridges.

Thank you sir. I didn’t realize they hung out in deeper water. I will give it a shot next time I am able to get down there to chase the bulls. I think this season is out, but I am hoping I can get down there next season

If I may? Is the drop off you reference adjacent to the ship channel?

There are many drop offs or areas of deeper water or holes near the ship channel as described above.. ....that was answer to the question of finding and catching sand trout for live bait.

Caught about 40 yesterday. It has been really really good. They want meat. Get any bait fish whole or cut it in half. Get with me if wanting to get out on the boat.

Big rain coming next week...hopefully it doesn't put too much fresh water into the bays too quickly. If a guy was gonna be down there during next week's rains, would you just fish as you normally would (barring lightning and high winds of course)?

Southcentral Texas and the hill country is bone dry. We need a lot right NOW! Long range forecast is not that promising at all! eeks

Side Note: I sure hope we got some!

Depends on how much rain. Use that freshwater to your advantage. Yes it displaces the fish. Figure out where.... reds and flounder tolerate A LOT of freshwater as long as the bait is there. But for the most part there are areas that hold saltwater better and don't get quite so fresh. The fish escape those slugs of freshwater into those areas of saltier water....concentrates the fish and we target them.

Some huge areas of the bay have very very very little freshwater influence at all.
