I have not been on the lake in 5 weeks. Normally I don't fish on the weekend but this kid wanted to go out and give it a try. Bad news was he only had 3 hours to fish. We briefly stopped at Spillway hump but there were so many boats already there and the one spot we looked at didn't have much to offer. Tennis court was pretty well covered up so we went back down the Merimac Point. Caught several good sandbass there in 15 to 18 FOW. We then took a look at Long Ridge but there were boats on east and west so worked our way up the west side and found a big pile of active fish at Key Ranch Drop Off. They were in 15 to 18 FOW. I used the MAL Original in chartreuse and the kid used MAL Original in white and a chartreuse slab. It was almost non stop catching until we had to head in. We caught 52.

I forgot to share a story about something that happened Saturday morning. We were fishing Merimac Hump and I was using the MAL original. I hung into something that was stuck at first and then it got a bit mushy and the lure started coming in. As I pulled the lure out of the water, I could see my hook was attached to a line. The line come off and I couldn't get it before it sunk. After a few more casts, I hooked the line again and again it came off of the hook but this time the line floated. I quickly grabbed it and started pulling it hand over hand out of he water but I was getting pressure from the other end. I assumed that I was bringing in the lure that was on the attached broken line and I was right. But I also felt what seemed like a fish. Again, I was right. Somebody was trolling a hell pet rig and their braided line either broke or it came off the reel spool because there was a pretty good amount of line. So I got a nice looking hellbender with a pet spoon that had a sandbass attached. The sandbass was in great shape so I released it. If you can tell me what color the pet spoon was and the color and type of line you used to make your hell pet rig, I'll give it back to you if you want to come and get it.

I took a guy out today that has only sandbass fished a couple of times. I instructed him on the MAL original saw tooth method and he started catching fish. He would have caught more if he let the lure fall straight to the bottom by opening his bail but I was not going to press the issue. Most of the fish were barely keepers. We kept 12 11" to 13" fish for him and his wife to eat. We caught over 60 sandbass, 3 yellow bass and 2 cats. Key Ranch drop off and Merimac Hump in 18' to 20' was best. Looked at Long Ridge, Iron wall and Spillway hump. I saw fish but not in good numbers. It really started to get hot out there by 11:00 so we came in.

Here's a report that can get you excited about Cedar Creek potential fishing greatness: I had about an hour and a half to fish last Friday before needing to come back and take the wife shopping. As I sat looking out at the lake, a premonition came to me as to a structure where I might catch some hybrids. So, with several new heavy inline spinners (the HeyTODD and HeyCLIFF) in hand, I launched, went straight to the spot, and spot-locked without looking for fish on my graph. I was casting from about 17 fow into 25 to 30 fow and working the spinner up the slope. Within 5 minutes, I had caught two legal hybrids. After an hour and a half, I had caught 16 legal hybrids with three more that pulled off, 8 sandies, a yellow bass, and a catfish - all from that one spot-lock. I caught 20+ inch hybrids on my last two casts then headed home. That's the most legal hybrids I've ever caught anywhere by myself in a single outing. I went back Saturday morning. but they weren't there. Just shows what CAN happen on any day.

Fished yesterday from 11 AM to 3 PM and caught 81: a short hybrid, 2 yellow bass, a cat and the rest white bass. Caught them in 10 to 18 fow at Sam's Hump, Key Ranch, and on the north shore of Lynn's Creek. They took BoBlades, Mepps #4 spinners, and Panther Martin spinners.

7/27/2024: Fished with Graham in his boat from 7:30 AM to 1 PM and caught 131: 121 whites, 4 legal hybrids, 1 short, 3 yellow bass. and 2 cats. We caught fish in 13 to 20 fow at Key Ranch, Merimac, Kevin's Hump, the north shoreline of Lynn's Creek, Enchanted Isle Ridge, and Spillway Hump where we caught the most. We caught them on small lime BoBlades, #4 silver Mepps, #2 silver Mepps, white hazy-eyed slabs, and white self-made BoBlade style lures. At Enchanted Isle Ridge they wanted something white worked medium slow. Everywhere else, they wanted it worked fast. At present I believe there are both full grown threadfin shad and the new hatch in the lake, and fish may be feeding on either or both. So, I have some rods ready with #2 Mepps and small BoBlades for fish feeding on the small shad, and some rods rigged with #4 Mepps and larger BoBlades for fish feeding on full grown shad.

I was thinking as we near August, the shad hatch may influence what they will want. I'll be finishing up my to do list by Tuesday. I'll be out mid week and hit them. Thanks for the report Dennis!

7/28/2024: Fished from 5 til 8 PM with Cliffshot and Graham and we caught 84: 78 whites, 3 cats and 3 yellow bass. Caught almost all of them at Campbell's Hump and the area just south of it in 15 to 18 fow using blade baits, hazy-eyed slabs, small Boblades, and #2 and #4 Mepps silver spinners.

7/30/2024: Friends Lenahorse (Larry) and Graham fished with me from 9 AM til 2 PM and we caught 100: 3 legal hybrids, 3 cats, 6 yellow bass, a black bass, a big buffalo, and the rest white bass. We caught them at Sam's Hump, Key Ranch, and Merimac Point in 10 to 18 fow. It was hard to stay on fish as they were moving around constantly. Spot-lock was a great aid as we kept jogging left, right, forward, and backward to stay on fish. Graham did the best of us three casting and reeling in a Hazy-eyed slab made by Bob Maindelle. I did the best on a #2 Mepps with weight up the line. We also caught some with the smaller BoBlades.

8/27/2024 Fished from 7 AM til 12:30 PM today with Gordon. We ended up catching 83 white bass and 3 yellow bass, but the day started slow, and we had to find a different lure than what we have been catching them on lately. We started at Key Ranch, but there just were not many fish there, and the few that were there were reluctant to bite. We saw Fastguy and CCLHybrids while we were there. We tried Merimac Point next and saw a good bunch on side-scan, but only caught a couple before they vanished. Next we went to Spillway Hump and found some in 20 fow on the west end, but they wouldn't bite. Moved over to the east side and found some in 13 fow. We tried the usual Mepps 2 for this time of year, but fish were very hesitant to bite. We had already tried a small BoBlade and Kastmaster, but fish didn't want them either. Finally, I put on a Mepps 4 and started catching fish. Normally, in August and September the fish want the #2 Mepps due to the small shad. So, today was an exception to the normal. After Spillway we tried Carolyn Estates Point but couldn't stay on fish. Next stop was an un-named point farther south, and we caught several whites there. Last stop was Saint Annes Point East, and it was loaded. We caught 20 there and it was time to go in. All fish were released.

8/30/2024: Well, catching is getting harder here at CC. Today we found some good schools down on structure that refused everything we threw at them including #2 Mepps. The only thing left for me to try is a smaller Mepps, so next time out I'll have a #1 rigged up. We did find some schools that would bite and caught 43 whites, a yellow bass, and a 19-inch hybrid..

Dennis, I have been catching quite a few at spillway point. Catching them on the 3/4 oz. chartreuse Bo Blade anywhere from 10 to 15 ft. of water. Lots of smaller fish with some bigger ones mixed in. I have only fished it in the mornings from about 7 till 9 or so.

Fished late yesterday and from 11:20 to 1:40 today. I found fish on shallow structures - Campbell's Hump. Merimac Point, and Key Ranch. Did not find fish at Greenhouse Ridge, East Dam Hump, Dam Hump West of Pole, Dam Ridge, Drew's Humps, Pole Dance Point, Carolyn Estates Point, Kevin's Hump, Iron Wall Hump, Slide Hump, 3-Jug Hump, Sam's Hump. and Long Ridge West. Bait's that caught fish were Mepps 2 and 1 and Panther Martin. Kastmaster and BoBlade did not. Jerk start to get best results.

Thanks for the report Dennis. I fished spillway point both Saturday and Sunday in the morning and was still catching them on the 3/4oz. chartreuse BoBlade. Still lots of smaller fish in the 10 to 12 inch range with bigger ones mixed in. Was fishing both days in 10 to 11ft. and casting all around the boat. Most fish were caught working the BoBlade horizontally along the drop off and shallow water like you do a Mepps. They did start schooling Sunday morning , but not for long and they were right up next to the bank.

This is my first post. I follow this thread regularly and live and fish CCL. I am trying to find where to buy the boblade lures? Any help would surely be appreciated. I caught about a dozen decent 12” sandies on Spillway Hump but was kinda slow.

Mr. Nalls, Google search 28 Star Fishing and go to the website. Click on the White Bass option and then click on M R Baits in Rockwall. You can order them from there.

Mark Bovee is the owner of M R Baits, he lives in Rockwall. Here is his cell number, call and he will pick up and place your order.
512-796-0333 All of his lures work amazingly well and the hooks and paint work are top notch.
