I am going to fish Choke or Amistad Wednesday. Any thoughts on which lake may produce better in this fine summer time HEAT?

Saw a tournament happened last weekend at Choke and the results weren't great. This time of year can be tough and the water is very low.

I went out to run the boat on Choke last Saturday and to fish for crappie a bit. Got there at around 2 pm on a Saturday and literally saw 4 boats the entire time I was there. It might have been the afternoon heat but I’m guessing that’s a sign of how it’s fishing.

Have not been---- but called down to a couple of contacts on Amistad. Both said it was TOUGH! Not to mention the heat index may get up in the teens.

Good thing TPWD killed most of the hydrilla, it leaves so much more room for the anglers that aren’t going. Great job TPWD!

I don’t know of them spraying hydrilla. They did spray hyacinth up the river. I think the hydrilla dies off due to the rapidly dropping water. Happens every time the lake continues to fall.

They do not spray the hydrilla on Choke however last year almost to the day of them spraying the hyacinth up river the hydrilla around the lake started to suffer and never really recovered. Was hoping the little bit of fresh water we had would help but doesn't seem that it did. I was punching isolated patches yesterday but they are too shallow. Only a couple feet of water below them. Got off the water around 4pm. My truck was the only one in the parking lot. Never got a bite all day in the grass or offshore.

The only time it ever went totally away at Amistad was the year they dropped the water level about 65 feet in a matter of months. Even then it came back after a few years. Hydrilla is remarkably resilient when man stays out of the picture. I've been fishing it since 1994 -- Several have claimed the grass was gone numerous times but most of them just couldn't find it.

I don’t know of them spraying hydrilla. They did spray hyacinth up the river. I think the hydrilla dies off due to the rapidly dropping water. Happens every time the lake continues to fall. Except here’s the flaw in your theory. The lake has been at approximately the same level for the last 3 years. It goes up 2’-3’ and down 2’-3’. There has been no rapid drop and the hydrilla easily could have kept up with the levels. Look at Canyon, it’s dropped much more rapidly and the hydrilla is doing good. Like mentioned, they sprayed up the river and within months, 90% of the hydrilla on the main lake was toast. Craziest coincidence ever right there. (If their spray didn’t kill all of it) Now there is some milfoil, I have yet to catch a fish anywhere around it.
