Yes when the fish run from the one with rattles try the silent one

Basically I use rattles when water is stained. Not when clear.

depends on time of year and conditions, in my opinion


one thing that will get more bites and even bigger bites some days is to down size

Silent ones are no so silent unless you replaced the split rings with braid

Personally I don't throw one much in stained water. So I go with no rattles. It is my favorite pre-spawn lure for big fish.
