Hey all, I guess I should start off by saying that as an adult, I'm pretty new to the fishing community, When I was younger (10-13 years old), my father drove a big rig and I would sometimes go on summer vacations with him. He loved to fish and it was one of the only things that he and I did when I was a child. Now, I'm 27 and a new father, and I want to get into fishing so I can share some outdoor time with my daughter and wife. For Father's Day this year, we are planning a small fishing/camping trip, and to facilitate the fishing part, my wife and I went to the local Cabela's, and I purchased a new rod and reel, plus some basic tackle. I acquired a Berkley 6'6" LR Lighning Rod and a Shimano Nexave C3000HG Spinning Reel. I would appreciate any advice and any spots in the area. Thank you all and I hope to meet any new fishing buddies sometime soon!

welcome to the TFF!

Side Note: I have never fished the El Paso area. The closet was the South Llano River in Junction. Which is still a very long way from El Paso. I would also put Google to work! thumb

We used to fish the canals for cats. Hooked a lot of bullfrogs too. There was some pay lakes that were family friendly but all that was 30 years ago. We used to drive to Caballo and Elephant butte to fish a lot. Last I heard Caballo Lake was drying up. The spill way had a campground I believe not far from the water.

Back in 2019 I was in town for business and fished ascarate park and caught a few bass and sunfish. I know in the winter that lake gets rainbow trout stockings. A local guy told me there were some ditches with bass in them but never shared location. The spillway at Caballo was good then. Caught small walleye, crappie and a few white bass. Never had any luck at elephant butte but only fished it once from the bank. Beautiful lake with clear blue water. Good luck!

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....
