The weather is starting to get more consistent and the fishing in Galveston has heated up. Early spring was tough due to high winds and lots of rain, but the past couple of weeks have been really good. We have been catching some nice speckled trout, red fish, a few drum and flounder. Some days have been action packed and some have been good to excellent. Of course when you get a windy day, it is a grind.
I am still using live shrimp under a cork for my best results, but I will be switching to live croaker within the next week or so. The water temp is around 75-78 where I am fishing and that is just about right to start dredging live croaker. I have been fishing lower Galveston and some of West Bay for the past month. Fishing the tides correctly and keying on nervous bait is always the key this time of the year.
I will continue to fish the areas I am in right now, but I will start to fish new spots. Fishing deeper water over shell will be the ticket for me over the summer months. Leaving early as possible and taking advantage of the moning bite should pay off. I will post another report soon. Until next time, I will see you on the water.
