I’m trying to create a photo for a cover of a book and need to match a period correct scene that will have a Garcia Mitchell 300 that I have acquired. I need help in identifying what period correct rod would’ve been used with it on the Alabama Gulf Coast in the late 60’s. Subject will be fishing from local pier for Speckled Trout in Mobile Bay.

Then it’s time to search eBay.

Mitchell Classic 300 Series Rod, Fenwick, Browning Silaflex, Sears Ted Williams are all names I remember and likely owned.Tennesee handle or colored metal threaded reel seat was popular back then if memory serves me.

I am pretty sure that is not a 60's Mitchell 300. This is.

That is another reel. I have the period correct reel from another person I bought it from. The picture is example of rod I purchased only.

This is the Reel I purchased from EBay today.

Thanks for noticing.

Good choice on the rod. The brown line would be classic, I don't remember the brand name but I do know it has the "back in the day" look. A period corrct bait bucket and tatered straw hat might be value adds as well. Best luck on your project.

Was it this one, these were displayed at a place we stayed at on Sam Rayburn. It was a good line back in that time period.

Garcia Conolon Rods came in 3 grades, Deluxe being the best, followed by Brown then Blue.

Late 60's, Garcia Mitchell 300 nice choice! For period correct rod, Fenwick FF755 or FF807 fiberglass rods were popular. Make sure to use monofilament line, it's more authentic for the time.
