i just finished reading Near Death in the ICU written by Laurin Bellg, MD; excellent book; i certainly believe in NDE's since i believe God will take me there permanently someday~!~!~

Been there, done that. Was bleeding out. Brought back in the OR. Didn't see or remember anything from the point where they were rolling me into the OR and I blacked out to when I regained consciousness in the recovery room.

Had a Professor in college that had an NDE and wrote a book, does talk shows, etc.
She was a wackadoodle.

To Heaven and Back by Dr Mary Neal ---- an amazing book about her NDE , her description of Angels and what Jesus showed her made me read it twice .

Well, I did drop to the ground during a heart attack, and it happened fast and I was out completely. As I was blacking out some crazy thoughts flashed thru my mind but I can’t remember what they were. All I can say is it was weird

My best friend died three times at the hospital and they were able to revive him (thank God). He has shared with me his experience...definitely life changing and eye opening.

Closest for me was being put under while listening to The Eagles Hotel California.

Luckily I can't name or think of a NDE. I've done some really really stupid stuff in my day and lived to tell about it.

Have a friend who had one got in a bad single car crash between post and Lubbock she swears she saw a cowboy who helped her get out of the burning car. They then care flighted her to Lubbock. She spent three weeks in icu where it was touch and go, but the cops and firemen have no clue how she got out of the car.

Those cops and firemen were terrible listeners. I’m no detective, but even I zeroed in on her comments regarding a cowboy helping her get out.

It was probably Jason Whitten, he's such a good guy.

Look there…you almost solved it and the cops and firemen walked away not even having a clue.

Yep had a NDE for something that was supposed to be a simple out patient Gi surgery, everything was till I went home, and a few hours later I was bleeding internally so much that I needed blood products thankful for JPS that time.... But wasn't happy to get that trauma activation/surgery bill in the mail lol

2002 Cancun Mexico vacation, we were throwing a football around in the pool about sunset. When the pool lights came on my friends said they were getting shocked and headed to the edge as I did too. About 10 ft away the electric current hit me and contracted every muscle in my body. I sank to the bottom and all I could hear was the sound of electric current, I remember thinking I'm going to die right here and suddenly the electricity was gone and I floated to top. Every muscle in my body was sore for a few days.

I had a similar experience as a kid. I was cat fishing off a boat dock at my grandparents lake house on Livingston. I cast my line off the end of the boat dock and was walking backwards to a 5 gallon bucket I was using as a seat when I mis stepped and fell into an empty boat stall. I didn't realize it at the time, but when I fell in I knocked an electric lantern in the water and it was still plugged in from the night before. When I came up the cord wrapped around my left arm and the whole left side of my body was numb and tingling. My first thought was that I was getting bit by a snake. As I reached over to knock it off with my right hand my right arm went numb. In a moment of clarity I realized what was happening so I decided to let myself start sinking to get the cord tight so I could pull it out of the socket. As I went under my life flashed before my eyes. Since I was only about 12 it didn't take long, but it was like I was going though a photo album of my life from that moment to birth in fast forward. The last image was of my dad holding me in his arms in a delivery room with a big smile on his face.
I got lucky, the cord unwrapped from my arm and I was able to swim under the dock to safety. I guess the man upstairs had other plans for me. A couple of years later my 5 year old cousin snuck out of my grandparents house and drown off the same dock, two stalls down from where I almost died.

A lot of folks are telling tales of being near death which is not what the OP is alluding to.

A NDE is when you are aware of not being in your physical body and your spirit being elsewhere. Many describe a bright light or being in a place of awesome unworldly peace and beauty.

My MIL had an experience such as this. Didn't want to come back into her body due to the pain she had been in but was told to come back but not in an audible voice. She had died from an internal hemorrhage (GI bleed) but returned to her body. This happened over 30 years ago.

I did my own out of body experiment after learning about what the CIA was doing after listening to Coast to Coast and Art Bell late one night... its real! No idea how long I was gone but came back when I reached up to touch my eyelids while eyeballs where where shifting left to right so fast I thought they were going to explode. Showed up at work the next day, the worst case of blood shot eyes in history.. explained to boss what had happened... sold every incoming call for cruise vacation package I took that day. I chit you not.

I died in the dentist’s chair when I was about 16 or 17. Dentist said I quit breathing and my heart quit beating and I died “but we got you back”. I had no out of body experience. It’s very hard to put into words to explain it all. My view is that you won’t know you died. I didn’t until I came back. It’s a hard concept to grasp. When you wake up from sleep you know you went to sleep.

i had one in Alaska and have told the story here. 20' tide came in and I was on the wrong side of the Seatuk river with 2 salmon on my hip, a .44 magnum and the old rubber waders. One of my customers was on the other side of the river. I took one step and went to the bottom in 9' of water. Bobbed up once and he was running back and forth in a panic. Bobbed up second time and sucked in air but mostly water. Went to the bottom heading 200 yards to the bay, leaning forward dragging my feet on the bottom. I was clear headed saying "you just killed yourself [censored]". It was a great feeling, no fear, no panic just absolute peace and I never felt cold at all in the glacial water. It did seem to be light and warm to me. The guy cast one cast of a half ounce spoon on 15# test mono and the line landed in my right hand. No control at all over my body but the hand grabbed and the line never slipped at all. He played me in, grabbed my hair and dragged me up a few feet on the bank. Turned me over and I puked water for a while, took all my clothes off and went to the truck and got drunk. He was so bothered by thinking what if and how his line landed in my hand that he quit his job and became a minister. I told my wife who was dying last year that there was nothing to fear at all.

Not a nde I suppose, but certainly an escaped death barely experience.

We were returning to Takhli RTAFB from Vietnam. Descending, going fast…300 or so indicated. There was no radar control…only a few GCI sites that could provide traffic advisories. Typical rainy season weather. Afternoon showers everywhere. We maneuvered at will to try to stay out of clouds as much as possible. Visual contact was the only separation between aircraft we had.

Skirting a buildup, another -135 headed right to left passed overhead. Missed us by no more than 25 feet. I don’t think he ever saw us.

Definitely a need new fruit of the looms event.

WOW --- simply amazing story . You should definitely read that Mary Neal book I mentioned , she describes her NDE exactly the same as you did . Hers goes one step farther and mentions her interactions with angels and the gates on Heaven . It's the only book I have read twice in my life .

The hooks never reached my hand. I did not consciously grip the line but the hand had a death grip by itself. I have no fear of dying since then. I was not the best person ever but never was afraid or saw demons. Someone on here said that God had forgiven me for my sins. Definitely a life changing experience.

here's a NDE story from Guideposts

“I was in a lot of pain,” he said, looking down at his empty lunch plate. “You’d gone to the hotel for the evening. I kept pressing the button for a dose of pain meds, but couldn’t get a nurse. I looked to the door. Two men I’d never seen before walked into my room. They were 40ish, average height. One had longish brown hair and the other had shorter hair.” Marv looked up and held my gaze. “Both wore long white robes.”

I was on the edge of my seat. “You think they were…”

“Angels, yes,” Marv said. “I’ve never been more certain of anything. They stood on either side of me, freed me from all the tubes and IVs, and put their arms around me. I was lifted. I saw the bed below me. The walls of the hospital vanished. I was flying through a brilliant blue sky. I wasn’t afraid. I felt the strength of the angels’ arms, supporting me, guiding me. Peace enveloped me.”

Marv went on to describe lights in the distance, shimmering waves of white, blue, red and green, like the aurora borealis, only the colors were brighter and deeper.

“I found myself outside a vast wooden door and a wall that seemed endless,” he said. “I was at the gates of heaven! The joy I felt was indescribable. I craned my neck but couldn’t see the top of the door and realized the angels were gone. There were about 35 people ahead of me, all of them smiling, beaming, as if to say, ‘We finally made it!’ Every minute or two the door would open and the next in line would go in. Finally no one was in front of me. The door opened to a large man with shaggy hair, a scrubby beard, sandals and a robe that looked like it had been worn for at least a thousand years.

“He stuck out his hand. ‘Hello, Marv, my name’s Peter. Welcome to heaven.’ ”

With every word Marv’s story grew more incredible. I didn’t doubt a word he said, yet it was more than I could comprehend. “Then what?”

“I was in a kind of entryway,” Marv said. “And Peter turned a page in what I understood to be the Book of Life. ‘Marv,’ he said, ‘I can’t find your name for today.’ I was dumbfounded. I argued with him. All that mattered to me was to be in heaven.”

At that point Marv could see a world beyond where he stood with Peter. Green grass, thick and inviting, the sky a sea of vivid blues, periwinkle, aqua and sapphire. Far in the distance he saw Grandma and Grandpa Besteman, his mother and three of his best friends. They each smiled and waved, as if inviting Marv to join them. They seemed to glow with happiness. Marv wanted to run to them, but Peter was insistent. It wasn’t Marv’s time.

“The next thing I knew I was back in the hospital room, connected to tubes.”

Some of you know a bit of my medical challenges recently, and I’d like to add my ICU experience from just last February-
The short version is that I was admitted to Baylor dallas ICU from the ER-
I “ coded “ a few hours later, my heart stopped beating, I wasn’t breathing.
They had a really hard time intubating me and actually broke several of my ribs while doing CPR to revive me.
Fortunately, they were able to revive me, but I never regained consciousness until 20 days later.
I don’t have any bright light at the end of the tunnel stories. I don’t remember seeing angels.
No dead relatives came to me that I’m aware of-
But I do remember some things from when I was in a coma, and I don’t believe I’m going to transcribe my experience here in this thread, but I will describe it as wonderful sometimes weird sometimes the rest I can’t really describe right now.
So I was admitted here at Baylor last February 16 and have not been able to go home yet.
2 1/2 weeks ago I was moved across the street by the rehab And things are going really good here they have my discharge date set for July 25 and that may come earlier or later than that.
Although I survived, I did have my legs just above the knee and both of my hands amputated.
It’s been mostly a tough journey however, I believe l have been given a gift of life for a second time.
I realize I’m veering off of the intent of this thread, so I’ll try and shut it down here.
Although being physically challenged in the way that I am now is not the way I saw myself growing old. I am so very grateful that I still get to go to birthday parties and football games and hug my wife and family.
. I’m posting this by voice to text so please forgive me if I missed a correction that I didn’t catch, I try to proofread before I actually hit the post reply button.
I realize y’all have heard this before, but hug those that matter to you, I think it’s rare that you know it’s going to be the last time you’re gonna get that chance.

I had a similar cold water, drowning experience. Hearing your story, it’s wild to hear you had very similar thoughts and feelings, both during and after as I did.

I was in the water for 10-15 minutes, but a few minutes in, I realized I wasn’t getting back in a boat and not a sole around. I thought to myself, “really? This is how I’m going to go? This has to be the dumbest possible way I could die”. (It was dumb because it was a Sunday afternoon in January, 43* water temp, rolling red mud.. But, I was and still am ate up with it)

But, it was peaceful. I was peaceful. Birds chirping, water slapping the side of the boat; just another day for the rest of the world.

I used to think drowning would be a terrible way to die, but not anymore. It may have been the cold water or it may just be what happens when your at that door, I don’t know. There was no panic, no fear. I felt, and I don’t know if this makes sense, but enveloped or embraced by something - a warmth? Odd I know.

I had no visions, or all the grand things I thought I would see or feel. I got to a point where I felt a super euphoric, drowsy feeling come over me. It felt so good - like a mix of the best high imaginable and dozing off on the couch after Thanksgiving dinner. However it works, I 100% believe I was being baited to the other side. The euphoric feeling, would be 100x if I just relax, let go, go to sleep. It tricked me. I did let go and I went under. As I was sinking, I was looking up the whole time - I vividly remember light. It seemed like tunnel vision of the daylight outside, getting smaller as I sunk. So I guess I never saw “the light” because this would’ve been the opposite side of where it’s supposed to be. After sinking 10’ or so, my feet hit a sawed off stump and it’s like I woke up. I kicked off the stump back up to the top and started fighting to live. The peacefulness was gone and I was in survival mode.

From that day forward, I have always been ok with death.

I read 90 minutes in Heaven a few years back, after the loss of a dear friend, It gave me peace in knowing what a beautiful place she went to!! and so now I understand that when

a loved one dies that just hoping that they are in a place like heaven is described is peace to my soul.
