Being a certified weigh station is very rewarding. Tonight I had the privilege to meet Mark Maynard of San Antonio who needed a Freshwater Drum weighed for a possible record from Choke Canyon Reservoir. Mark's fish was 29.5" in length with a 25.75" girth. The certified weight of the fish was 19.62 Lbs which beat the old Choke Canyon Reservoir Freshwater Drum Record of 17.65 Lbs caught back on March 31, 1996. Mark caught his Drum from the bank using worms. Paper work will be filed with the Texas Parks & Wildlife for Mark's pending record fish. Congratulations Mark!

That is a big drum. I am sure Mark appreciated using your scale. Congratulations to Mark.

He is also a avid fly angler. I told him about you and your book. I hope he joins the forum. He fishes a lot and respects the outdoors.

40 years ago I was fishing the tail race below Somerville with 6# test and foul hooked a big Gou with a little jig. Stuck it in the front fin.

Two other fisherman helped me land it, one of them actually had a home made gaff.
It was easily 15 to 20 pounds.

I gave the fish to them they were happy !

Many record fish there never see the scales, it’s a shame the TPWD office doesn’t have certified scales.

Wow! Talk about a surprise catch. I've never caught a freshwater drum anywhere near that big.
