I drove down behind the dam an hour ago to see if anyone was catching anything. There are 4 gates open and people everywhere not a parking spot available, I saw just a few sandies caught.

I was surprised as well. We hammered SB about the same time this year in 2021. With water letting out I thought it would’ve been incredible. I don’t know where the fish are. They were just a few caught, but it was right where the water was discharging. I wonder if those are fish that are actually coming out of Lavon rather than swimming up river? Any thoughts?
You ain’t gonna catch any sittin’ on the couch.

Swimming up the River. They need 4 gates open to get over the low water dam at 78, and the gates need to be open continuously for 5-6 days before the fish make it all the way up there. It’s still early in the sandbass run, and I’m sure the water coming out of lavon is quite a bit colder than what is coming in the lake from many of the creeks.

Easy limits… good luck getting a spot. FYI. Don’t even try the platform unless you’re an experienced fisherman. Long rods will definitely get you to the fish. Straight down on the wall with minnows will also get you some pescados. Everyone there have been respectful and helpful. I fish with a group of at least 20-30 guys, if you know you know. Best advice is do not just go and stand next to one and tangle the whole place up. Stand and watch what folks are doing for a few minutes and pick your poison. Don’t go and pick a spot next to someone with a surf rod and stand of his/her right if your rod is shorter stand on the left side and cast to 11oclock. Watching the current is a must. Be aware where you are casting. Sometimes you may have to wait a few before your window is open to cast. I’m using 9’6-10’6 surf rods with 1.5-2 oz weights with a 3-4’ leader 1/8 oz jig head and a 3-4”plastic bouncing off bottom or with steady retrieval but make sure you are constantly reeling in. Have fun and meet new people!
