I DS'ed 3 consecutive weekends in February and had some decent success. This winter is not as good as last winter due to the mixed cycles of unseasonably warm days and cold days, and I had to cover more areas to find fish and also find fish that will bite. Lol.

I took DC, Cliffshot and Graham on the first trip of the month and it was a grind where I had to move alot to find them and when we finally found the mother load, it was later in the day and deep 80ft and we only managed a few. Birds have been consistently working the last hr of daylight but that day therr were 8 boats waiting for the birds too and the birds were shy and it didn't happened. Total 13 fish day. I was a bit frustrated on this trip bc DC and his buddies drove 3 hrs for the trip and I really wanted to be a good catching day. Oh well.

Leanahorse Larry, Ed and Bobby joined me on the second trip and it was much better. We found biting fish right of the bat and caught 22 at the mouth of a cove and had about 30 misses also. Lol. After that we drove about half a mile and saw birds working near the TX shore and caught another 15 in an hour, all big bruisers too and that was wild and fun! Then we DS a couple spots and got some good fish, where I landed a 30" DD fish, and then finished the day at working birds and each of us boated two bigs. Total was 65 fish, mostly overs. Everyone caught good fish oh yeah !ย

The third and and last trip was yesterday, Windbreaker Eric and ScottyP joined me. Scotty landed a 7 lber right off the bat at the first spot. Very overcast day all day, we got plenty of fish to follow us, crazy good graphs, but only a few would bite. We boated 18 at 330pm then saw birds working at several areas where we had more success DSing than chunk and wind and i DSed me a 30.5 " and a 27.5" back to back. We worked the birds till dawn and finally caught some good ones casting and reeling at the end and the total catch of the day, 45 fish. Mostly overs and winter fatty grade. We had a bunch of light tap misses but everyone caught good fish evenly. The group of fish that bit, lime green, white ice flukes worked just as well and I caught a few on pink too. It was my first time fishing with Eric and he's a bona fide dang good angler in my book and a great guy to fish with. Glad you made that 2.5 hr drivr to join me, Eric. Meeting people like you makes this sport fun.ย

All the trips were noonish to dark. Winds were very light. Catching depth mostly 50ft to 80ft, avg 60ft. My preference is sunny skies, calm, and water temp in the 40s.

Good luck guys!ย

Some pics from our February trips for show and tell.

Todd, the misses mentioned in this post ! You thinking short strikes, more tail slaps than usual , smaller fish or fish just mouthing the bait ?

Funny we were discussing that. It's possible it's all of the above. But my best guess is the group that don't bite or very light taps are smaller fish that looks like little rice pellets on my screen when I drift fast and a skinny wormy arches when I drift slow. Texoma fish population is very healthy and tons of school of small 12 inchers. Also ScottyP snagged a 12 incher and we just all reeled up and moved to look for bigger fish. On spots where the bigs followed the bites are way stronger and most colors will work. Good question, Greg.

We refer to a fish simply mouthing the bait as " heavy line ". No tap, a bite often referred by BB fishermen as mouthing the bait. And the usual truck load of tail slappers ! Referring to PK and Bporte.

We did get line that slacked several times from the "push up" bite i guess that is mouthing that you are talking about
