Have never fished Palestine. I heard of the area called Old Folks but can't find it on a map. Is this it? Thanks for any info. Or other suggestions. [Linked Image]

Going there in late March. For a first timer on the lake, would that be a good place to go or one of the creeks south of there that might be more accessible?

Put in at that ramp idle under bridge and start fishing. It's shallow water spring paradise. If the lake is not full you have to be careful crossing over the old road, but it should be full now.

Old Folks is not what it once was, a lot if the ditches and drains are silted in and it used to be a lot better.

Late march should be a few still spawning, but the post spawn bite should be strong. Should be a good frog bite

That is some good advice! Under the 315 bridge is Kickapoo Creek which is a dynamite spring area. Lots and lots of water to fish. Douglas J recommended frogs you should also try Sinko type soft swimbaits and spinnerbaits. You can idle from the ramp to under the bridge and then it is pretty much trolling motor only. You can idle up there but be prepared to bounce off stumps. I'm sure that time of year, you will have plenty for company up there.

Late March, I would head south! More and more tournaments are being won on the south end or they are catching better fish! Not saying you can't catch'em up there, but they will be a lot spawning on the south end during that time!

There's a submerged/not submerged bridge up there that may or may not be known to hold bass in late spring/early summer.

Looks like if the lake is full you could run that area just idle over road. But before you do might want to get you one of those thingamajigs, that goes behind your motor, to keep it from landing on your back deck or in your lap

I fished it last year with a guy that knew the lake about as well as anybody and he showed me where to run and where not to, we ran pretty much flat out everywhere we went. we ran the east side of the lake out of The Villages a few miles north and south and back down towards the dam on the west side. We didn't run back toward Kickapoo but was told do not run that on plane. There was an area north of The VIllages on the east side where we ran pretty near the east shore to avoid a stump field as well. I watched the MLF BPT guys run up in the northwest section and they idled most everywhere they went. They were worried about the time they were giving up just to be able to fish that area and whether it was going to be worth the effort.

I bought a chip from this guy below. I like it, it works great. I run most of the lake with no worries. I do not run Kickapoo. I put in at the public ramp there and just fish. You can run the high lines to the island to the east from the ramp pretty safely and if the water is up you can run it all the way. I do agree that late march mid lake and south spawn later and may be better if you are looking for bed fish. Fun lake to fish and I like it way better than Fork bang de
