15 or 17 invisx for me. I hear I need to beef up to 20 plus for some lakes, but I have not had to yet. I don't typically use jigs in thick grass and this would be the only time I would think about braid.

It depends on what and where I am fishing. I only like braid in grass. Give me a 20lb flouro around docks and I am happy.

Depends on cover you're fishing. Certain types of wood the braid digs into and makes it harder to get a fish out if wrapped up. I would certainly use braid around heavy vegetation.

Here is an article by one of the best in the biz.

Out here in west Texas a minimum of 20# fluro or 50# braid if I go deep enough in the brush with my trailer queen.

rock- at least 20 lb abrazx in chunk rock and bigger rock in general, can get away with 15-17 around around pea gravel and smaller rock, but ive had nightmare scenarios with lighter line so at least 20 for me.

grass- braid

docks - 20 lb abrazx

15 - 20 lb. Fluorocarbon for me. Frogs are the only thing I use braid on. I do use it with a leader on dropshot.

17-20 fluoro for me most all the time, but braid is certainly the way to go around thick grass.

I like the 20lb fluorocarbon but hate the memory. So went to 40lb. J braid with a 8’ 20lb fluorocarbon leader. I use a Alberto knot and I get the best of both worlds. In my opinion. I fish timber and laydowns most of the time.

Don't mean to steal the thread - just curious if you guys have any tips for jig fishing? I'll admit I don't fish a jig too often but I honestly think I have caught 1 bass my entire life on a jig....just can't seem to get any bites on it when I do try fishing a jig

During fall and winter I've been jigging using slabs....white or chartreuse.

I've been catching LM using a slab with bladed tremble jigging....bouncing off bottom...every time on the lake since Oct ...its a go to when fish are deep....until I don't mark fish deep, I'll keep using them.

I do flip my slabs upside down...never seen bait fish fall tail first unless electrocuted/stunned by loud sonic boom.....so I make sure eyes are tremble end.

Several different guides have told me when they get that question that tell the customer you need to take all of your other rods out of the boat except your jig rods.

Jig is very versatile when fishing. Pitch it, flip it, skip, and cast. Crawl it back, hop it, stroke it swim it. You can cover shallow to deep. I typically see fewer bites but better quality with a jig. You can add/change action by changing trailer style. I have had days on Rayburn of catching over 50 fish on football jigs and one day last year caught 19 keepers in 21 casts on a swim jig during shad spawn. So dont get caught up in thinking you have to fish it only one way, change it up until the fish tell you how they want it presented. Black/blue and a green pumpkin or watermelon variation are staples and throw in white if swimming it in shallow brush or grass. Some days I may have 4 or 5 rods rigged with different colors or styles and only fish jigs for the entire day.
