The company posted a memo Tuesday saying that wages would increase and the average US employee's pay would be $17.50 per hour. A company spokesperson confirmed to the Wall Street Journal and CNBC Tuesday that the minimum wage would increase, and that store employees will make between $14 an hour and $19 an hour starting in March.

Funny, I just left there while buying a giftcard. I thought you had to have a cashier to activate it so I walked up to a cashier that was talking to another employee. That employee nods toward me and female said “what”, “what am I doing here”,’what am I doing here”. I responded “I give up”. She pointed me to the self checkout and said she only checks out tobacco products.

No one is forcing anyone to work there or live in an expensive city. People think it’s their right to live in places like NYC, SF and LA. Those idiots need to get over themselves and move to the suburbs.

I would have had her ring me up some smokes and the gift card. Then decide I don't want the smokes and have her take them off.
No way I would put up with that.

She was in a surgical mask and had gloves on so I figured she was sick.

I have never known a walmart employee.
This surprised me when I realized it.

I frankly don’t have an issue with it, with rising prices and inflation. There are companies trying to pay people with 4 year technical degrees $20/hr on a w2 contract in a lot of places right now, so I gotta commend Walmart for at least trying to pay people a living wage. A lot of companies trying to get people for as cheap as they can right now, some of the rates they’re offering they should be embarrassed by.

Anyone with basic knowledge of economics would have an issue with it. Hell, Walmart can pay $45.00 an hr and all it’s going to do is raise prices of the Big Mac or other fast food combo they eat. Living wage is crazy talk from people who honestly don’t know what a living wage is. If you are chasing inflation then you are doing it wrong!

My son is a current employee of Walmart working through college. He makes 17.50 an hr I think but he isn’t run of mill workers.

Walmart does a lot more good than they will ever get credit for.

For being one of, if not the common largest employer in the world, they still do a lot of things correctly.

Whether you’re a fan of Wal Mart, or not, just him being around, helps every single person whether you realize it or not.
