Means you got a leak somewhere. More than likely the cylinder shaft seal. Keep an eye on it.

The trim cylinder rams take a pounding as we run up and down the lake. I had both of mine leaking this past summer, I got all the stuff including oem fluid to reseal mine at boat.net

They have an awesome website, has the engine schematics of every engine out there too. So if your a diy sort of guy they have the resources for it. The spanner wrenches to remover and reinstall the caps is something I would suggest getting. I bought a full set of these as I work on every freak'n thing here and use to do this professionally.

The new kits you get to repair these now, we no longer change the O-rings, you get a complete new cap that has all the O-rings all loaded, you just take the old caps off, then install the new and tighten down. Just say'n

Would you see evidence of a leak?

Yes you will.

Its a closed type system, no other way to lose fluid.

Keep an eye on your 2 trim rams and the 1 big tilt ram that is in the center. The other place is the fill cap, but that is not so common.

Clean the area really good and dry around those 3 Shafts where they come in and out the trim unit. Then with that area nice and clean, really good and dry, run the trim unit up and down and see what you got.
