Has anyone used Norman speed clips on crankbaits? If so do you remove the split ring?

they will pull out with a bigger fish, I quit using them for that reason.
they work good and I left the split ring in.
hang up or get a 3-4 # fighter on and they can straighten out.

Used them when they first came out and thought they were great--until I lost a fish and my bait. Thought it was a fluke deal until it happened again--this time in a tournament. Threw them in the trash. A few years later one of my partners started using them and I explained how a Jumping, thrashing fish could come un-clipped. Two years later he admitted it finally happened to him.

I tried them when they first came out and one opened up on a good fish and I lost the fish. Naturally this happened in a tournament. Threw the rest of them in the lake that day.

no way I would ever use something like that it only takes about 10 seconds to cut off what you have tied on and tie a palomar knot for your new lure.

I have used them for many years and have lost very few fish on them which I put up with for the convenience. I have never had a fish straighten one out. The ones I lost somehow got the lure or hook to come off the clip. I never used them during tournaments. My main gripe with them is if your fingers are wet or cold, they are hard to open without pliers and not real easy with them. I recently bought the Mustad fastach clips Marc mentioned which look like they will solve my issues but i havent tried them yet.

I have used them for years and if I had lost a fish because of them, I would fess up. It has never happened. I use the Norton Quick-Twist clips also.
No, I do not remove the split rings.

I use them a little on one set up….y’all are probably going to think I’m crazy, but I get a little better/different action out of my jerkbait by attaching a speed clip to the split ring.
