Those who use a Palomar knot have you tired the Double Palomar knot?
"The only difference between the Palomar knot and the double Palomar is that instead of making just one overhand knot with the doubled line, you will make two. This extra step provides 15% of additional strength over the original Palomar."
curious about this.

I haven't tried it. The palomar is already a strong knot. Doing the loop twice would almost double the effort and make the knot bigger. I probably won't try it.

I've never had any issues with the Palomar Knot to where it would need to be reinforced. The Clinch Knot on the other hand is a knot that definitely needed some reinforcement. Now we have the Improved Clinch Knot.

Line test weight is dead weight lifted straight up. Slowly.
Test the knot. If the line is 8#. Tie one end of the line to a stick or rod. The onther end to the weight that matches the line test.
Pull up the weight. See what breaks. The line or the knot.
Just know, dead weight. Is way more force then pulling the same weight through the water.

From my testing, the Palomar knot tests around 95% of the line, so there is not 15% left to be gained. The easiest way to test the knots against each other is to tie a Palomar on one end of a line with a snap or hook and the double Palomar on the other end of the line with a snap or hook. Then pull the ends and see which one breaks. If you do this 10 times you will get a good idea of which knot is better.

The problem with most knot strength tests is that they measure steadily increasing loads/force instead of shock strength (a suddenly applied large amount of force—what a knot experiences on a hook set)

Fishing from the co-angler position and snagging. Trying to break off 15# test invix can sometime become a problem. With the boater stopped without any anchors in the water many times I was pulling the stern toward the bank trying to break off and for the most part I believe the line broke before my Palomar not did.

Never had a problem with just the single Palomar. I feel like the less knot the less kinks and therefore less points of possible failure. Just my thought.

I use the double on braid when heavy grass fishing and on frogs. Other than that I use a regular palomar on everything else except topwaters.

I'll have to try the double on braid, sounds like a good tip. I always use the single palomar on mono and floro

The problem with most knot strength tests is that they measure steadily increasing loads/force instead of shock strength (a suddenly applied large amount of force—what a knot experiences on a hook set) This along with getting knicked up as it bangs into rocks, wood, and a weight. Burning the line is an also issue with Palomar
