Anyone ever use this Mexican soap called Zope? Friend uses it and it works great for blue cats on Whitney

Have not. Definitely gonna stick to fresh shad for blues. Try it and report back!

We used P&G soap on trotlines in the 60's. It worked well. Live mud bugs worked even better. The P&G was a laundry soap in bar form.

Zote soap is what it's called, and it has a higher content of animal fat than most common manufactured soap.
Works best as trotline or jugline bait.
It takes a while for it to start to dissolve, and small fish leave it alone as to the reason I think, where common baits like live bait, cut bait, stink bait, natural baits like worms, liver, and manufactured dough baits are a better choice for RR.

My grandfather fished Whitney for many years and was partial to jackrabbit for blues. I was the roadkill retriever

Yep, we used to get a hunting trip and a fishing trip all rolled into one!
