Was told by Bass Pro that it would take 6 mos. to a year to repower my Ranger with a Mercury 150. Is this true of all outboard manufacturers? I’ve been limping along with an evinrude, and I would just like to eliminate the recurring theme of ruining fishing trips with a 25 year old motor. I’m in austin and there are not a lot of options….

Sounds like Merc and Yami have quite a backlog, might find a Suzuki or Tohatsu quicker.

I'm in the exact same position as you. I'm still using my 30 year old Johnson Fastrike and wanted to go ahead and repower. I spoke with Rockwall Marine just before Christmas about repowering my Pantera II and was basically told there are no Pro XS or Sho motors available for repowers, and he can't get them. Not in any timeframe. I wanted a 200 HP in either one and had the cash to pay for it outright. I don't blame the dealers though, but I'd sure like to see bad things happen to Mercury and Yamaha for how poorly they treat customers.

You can run down to Matamoros and pick up a new carb 150 Yamaha. I got my 90 that way.

I have heard that Mercury is way behind on motor inventory. They are filling boat manufactures orders first. I also know that Yamaha is getting closer to being “caught up”. Keep in mind that switching from a Mercury to a Yamaha would mean a good investment in parts required to do the installation. The controls and gauges are likely not compatible between different makes.

I got lucky and was given a solid lead on where to find my motor. When I saw it in a crate, I wrote the check and made it mine.

Waiting on the installation, which should be this week.

LMC Marine keeps sending me emails saying they have motors in stock. They are in Houston. I haven’t responded since I’m no longer searching for a unicorn. Lol.

I figure going to recover like mentioned, new wiring harness, guages a must have. New shifter and cables as well. Certainly much easier to do now...

Thanks to you all. After being told none and wouldn’t have one for up to a year (150 or 175, which I preferred) and I was considering a “new” boat. But, a couple days later, they found a 175 Pro XS in Springfield. Can’t wait to turn the key!!

That ended up better than it did in the beginning...
