Bruce's 10% is good advice. Personally, I don't water from Oct-March-April (depending). I shut my irrigation system off Mid-Late October and just forget about it until February when I apply pre-emergent then run it to water it in then back to shut off. Winter is typically a pretty good wet season for NTX, basing off the official DFW Airport amounts and Nov/Dec. I would get a soil probe or meter and take it from there. We have a few soil profiles in NTX. That said. I doubt you'll need to water in winter.
