I appreciate those guys putting on a big money tournament. I couldn’t make it this year but I wonder how many boats entered?

Can’t believe it didn’t draw more boats. I’ll be watching to see how many Champs draws in couple weeks compared to this bigger payout

Cause all I see is new trucks, new houses everybody making 2-3k a week around me. And that's the poor folks. Maybe an East Texas thing?

Champs will draw better with the lower entry and Saturday event. Most of their guys are working on Thursdays

They all thriving and all my customers are. Guess it's the area I just think alot of guys fish these events that probably shouldn't. That entry fee scares a bunch off

I’m curious to see how “The Show” draws. Rayburn always pulls decent numbers, but a $1600 entry fee with a $50k first place on a lake not named Rayburn or TBend has my attention.

760k for a house. I don't think I've 760k total in my entire life. On everything I've ever bought.
I can backlash toilet paper.

The lower middle class and middle class have not exhausted all their credit yet. Credit card depth in the US has had a quick increase in the last year. If inflation doesn't slow down their will be many in financial strains when their credit runs out.

How do you explain the decline in tournament entries if it isn't economy related? Every tournament director I have talked to without exception had a decline in entries for 2022. I agree you don't see alot of people "struggling", but every single person has seen a decline in real income. Inflation alone has made that a reality. In my opinion some of the guys that were on the verge of not being able to afford tournament fishing now can't or simply fish less tournaments than they did a few years ago.
The other reality that 2022 has revealed is the fact that the number of bass fishermen that want to fish these high entry fee tournaments for bigger money is a relatively small % of tournament fishermen. TTO Pro team and now this tournament seem to prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. I had multiple people close to this tournament tell me before entries opened that they expected to get a full field of 400 teams within a few days of opening entries for this event. That certainly didn't pan out.

Last statement is probably correct. The first one however more than likely means in "your circle of friends/acuaintaces" probably are not struggling. And I can't imagine you don't know "literally" anyone that isn't under a different monetary structure than they were two or three years ago. The Austin area has quite a few more people in the non struggling category than many areas. Not many of our friends are struggling, but I know LOTS that are outside of my immediate friends/family circle. Blessed if you're not.

I think the main factor is cost increases in food , insurance and such has drastically cut into disposable incomes. Now it's priorities and needs over luxuries and wants.
