do any of you use a release spray on your molds?. if so,do you spray the mold each time before pouring or just every once in while for good measure?.

No need to mold release. If you warn the mold up everything will flow just fine.

thank you, i usually do not use a release, but talking to a fellow lure maker he used it on molds with some fine detail, such as scales etc.
the stuff he used was the same as ammo makers use,and it's a little pricey. so thanks again thumb

To each his own. I have been pouring for over 25 years and on some difficult molds, mold release definitely helps. Having a hot mold is one thing however getting complete full pours is another. I started using it about 3 years ago and it definitely does work. Clean both sides of the cavity with mineral spirits. Spray both sides with "Drop Out" let dry about 5 minutes and go pour. Do not over spray. More is not better. Just make sure your cavities have a nice gray coating. Re-application is maybe every thousand pours. Then clean old release out of cavity and repeat.

About the only thing i have ever done is soot up the mold with a lighter. Works great and easy to do.

This or a lighter is perfect. The soot is better than anything else. It is like a nonstick pan.
