Anyone have experience with both? I have a 16 Tundra it's a great truck. I still have to put my foot in it sometimes to get it moving while towing my V20. My question is, and I understand there are some variables in this, but is the F250 like some folks say " hook it up and forget about it ", or does it need convincing sometimes too? Thank you guys for your input!

You're trying to compare the least capable 1/2 ton to the most powerful 3/4 ton. My partner has a '15 Tundra and towing his ZX225 its constantly down shifting and revving to the moon to keep up. My '20 F250 that I just got rid of didn't even have to downshift.

I've had a 3500 chevy duramx, an f250 power stroke, and yes they pull a ton better. A 1/2 ton gas truck is just going to have to work harder. They are a good bit cheaper I'd expect over a diesel.

The Ram 1500 with the 7.5 Hemi works just fine and you don't have to pay the price for diesel fuel. The Tundra gets terrible gas mileage even when not pulling a boat.
I get around 14.7 pulling the boat and over 20 on the highway not pulling the boat.
You don't need a diesel for pulling a boat. Just too expensive in todays fuel prices.

Just too expensive in todays fuel prices. it's a 5.7 , and they have been building those for a long time . my mechanic ( 35+ years in the Biz ) swears by these and wouldn't touch any other Truck . His second choice is the older Tundra's as he isn't seeing any of the new versions since they are all still under warranty . He see's a ton of the Fords with the older diesel issues and lots of the 6 and 8 speed GM's tranny issues

Depends on the truck. My supercharged tundra doesn’t have any issues. We have 20 or so 2022 f250’s at work right now. They are gas v8 trucks and I don’t think they have balls at all. Just an aluminum f150 with heavier springs is what I see in them.

The engines in these 250’s are lame. But, I guess they are absolutely the least expensive 250’s on the lot. Zero options. We are building them out for another company. These have $30-something thousand dollar window stickers on em. They’re probably $40k plus for the same in a 2023.

The ‘23s are butt ugly though

The newer 7.3's with the 10 speeds will scoot but still not like the powerstroke with the 10 speed. When I had mine the thing would blister the tires through 6th gear if the traction control was turned off. Now that I'm rocking a GMC AT4X with the 6.2 I get to keep OPEC in business, that thing can drink almost as much gas as a Tundra but with the massaging seats turned on and the 12 speaker Bose cranked up I forget all about fuel economy.

I own both. My 17 tundra with the 5.7 pulls my Champion 203 just fine. The 17 F250 diesel pulls it better. Anytime I’m pulling anything heavier that the boat or a light load on the flatbed trailer I choose the diesel.

owned both trucks, both towed my Ranger 520C tandem axel just fine, the F250 SD Diesel was overkill for a bass boat... gas milage in the Tundra is horrid - single digits towing, combine that with a small gas tank and no bueno for road trips cause you'll be hunting for gas more often... if you need the vehicle for commuting to work in the city the Tundra is easier to find parking for and can get into parking garages with height restrictions easier... they will both do the job just fine...I will add the Tundra is cheaper to maintain than a F250 diesel... if the F250 has to go in for something big they have to take the cab off the truck !... do your research for overall cost to own, the Tundra will be much-much cheaper but the diesel will be the best tow you ever had !

With the cost of diesel I’m glad I got rid of my F-250. It was a beast towing the boat but definitely overkill. For just boat towing, I wouldn’t go diesel again.
