Weather forecast was for rain by noon so I made a morning trip to do some cormorant roost fishing. The lakes is really muddy on the north end but still had a decent morning and kept 25 for the freezer.
All fish caught on squid in 3โ€“15โ€™ .

Squid you say... Well there is another one I need to add to the great bait debate... Nice mess of fish and those fillets are white as snow.

Tim the squid stays on the hook good and works well under the birds . I fish it on a cork and also on just a hook no weight . Them fillets looked even better after I trimmed them up and cut the bloodline out .

Cheapest you can find raw bacon works great for that too on a treble (small circle might work as well), but I may have to give squid a try one day (I've seen people even catch them on pieces of white tee shirt or white spinner bait skirts under a cork).
They are mostly waiting for the cork's "plop sound" that triggers them and sounds very close to what water turkeys expelling shad (the cork sounds like hitting the water from above in the trees), I don't even think the bait makes a whole lot of difference in that circumstance. That is a really fun fishing style and usually works best when there is little or no wind at all IMO. Nice job and pretty fish.

This fish was caught (and released) yesterday on the tail half of a jumbo shrimp!

My husband does the same thing. A lot of people donโ€™t. They taste so much better cleaned up.
