Fished Lake Whitney with my daughters and my father inlaw yesterday.
Caught 3 stripers, 1 sub, and 2 legal fish.
Ended up donating 2 umbrellas rigs to the lake.
Still a decent day to me as I learn this fishery.

If you aren't using live bait, you need to be deadsticking this time of year. At least that's how I have the most success.

Exactly, as good as deadsticking is right now chasing down and caring for live bait is not worth the effort

Thanx for the suggestion, I plan on trying that technique next time

Fished Saturday 03/18/2023 on Lake Whitney., a youth fishing tournament was occurring around the State Park, traffic from that event bleed into the Mccowan Boat Ramp which was packed, we moved over to Steele Creek park which was less crowded.
With increasing NE winds throughout the day, the south facing ramp offered good protection.
We kept a 3 man limit of stripers and 1 whitebass, before heading in as the winds increased.

I have not observed any top water action, the last month I have been fishing live bait, which is consistently producing limits.

Fished solo Saturday afternoon(4/1/2023) with live bait(shiners and perch), put in at Cedron which re-opened 4/1, fished down towards the dam, marked fished, but got little to no bites.
Headed back north past the bridge between McCowan and Cedron, caught a limit just before dark and threw several back.

Has anyone fished up the Brazos or Nolan yet? I was wondering if the sandies were up the river. Taking my 10 year old boys on Monday and would like to get them on some fish. Have a great day!
